Throughout all this, the key word is "teamplay". Wedgwood says it a lot. Of course there is some scope for personal achievement - an experience points system, which is being worked on at the moment, carries through each campaign, and Wedgwood promises it won't be as simplistic as something like CTF assists. "You can't just stand next to a flag and bank some points." They're also toying with the idea of persistent ranks. But it is a team game first and foremost. With absolutely no single-player in the box. As to what is in the box, there's talk of 12 maps, although they may cut or add maps right up to the last minute, and Wedgwood's quite clear about why: "It doesn't matter if we've spent six months on one, if we're not happy with it and it's not fun we're not going to ship it," he states.
poop and i were looking at some shots in the current computer gaming world mag and there was some of peppi's concept stuff in there. the more i see the better it looks. i am really looking forword to this one.
Looks freakign sweet... Kind of disappointed with the 24-32 player suggestion though.. I get annoyed with less than 40 in BF2 sometimes. I'm a huge battle kind of guy.
Now I dunno about you, but if I was a medic, I wouldn't carry my difibrillator like this: http://www.worthplaying.com/press/201/ET_QuakeWars_12.jpg
Only takes one enterprising Strogg to get close and hit the buttons and then ka-zapp!
everything is alot more realistic, i guess the only quakish parts are the strogg. i like the lighting alot better than q4, theres alot more ambience going on in these screens, which is nice to see from a doom tech game. overall looks really cool but in the end the graphics won't mean a whole lot, alot of good looking games are coming out, its all about how its going to play, the last ET was fun as all hell, so i'm hoping this will be more of the same
KDR: If you read some of the info on any of the links posted it mentions that this is set just prior to quake 2, with the earth forces being near future equivelants of our current arsenal.
this game sure looks amazing. best looking doom3 tech game followed by prey. cant wait to get this game into my hands and the strogg look a lot cooler than in q4!

WTF? Come on, if you're going to sell it at least add bots.

Have you played BF against the bots? Now tell me is it any fun? NO, they are USELESS, there is no reason to have them there.
That kind of games are not fun with bots period.
Bots = wasted $$$$$
Those screens look incredible. And the talk about frontline objective combat sounds exciting. I hate playing cat and mouse. And I gotta agree with Toomas, bots are useless in these games compared to the multiplayer gameplay. Although, sometimes the bots follow certain rules of combat that I wish human players would. Nice to finally see a game being created using the D3 engine.

It was fun enough to make me buy the full game after playing the demo even though I had no internet connection at the time.
Bots are a necessity if you ever want to play such a game with friends and friends only (e.g. LAN). It's just no fun to play with six people total but six people vs. bots is a lot better.

if its just prior to quake 2, shouldn't the marines look more like the quake 2 marines? They seemed a bit more hi-tech/big power armour than these modern looking guys. Regardless, it looks sweet! I wonder if the strogg will have the tank available (rocket launcher/laser guy, not the vehicle)
Bots are good for checking/testing out stuff in private!
Sometimes you just wannt chill out a bit and have easy fun, which you sometimes can't have online with some Team commander jerk yelling you orders and screaming WTF!! and bad ping, full/empty servers etc.
I like bots as alternative.
Yah, I have to agree that I like the 'look' of the Stroggs in this game. Looking at them definitely gives me the 'willies' than the models in Quake4. Why this is, I have no idea, but they look fantastic!
SF: Not only that, remember all the "learn flying BEFORE going online" complaints in the Battlefield games? It prevents having beginners on your tean that are still figuring out how the game works.
Yeah, and they always train before because they are given the option to, right KDR? And about the quoting, if you don't want to load a new page, just use the tag.
The game is looking fantastic, a couple of textures looks a little lowres and strange for PR-shots but oh man the rest is wonderful.

No, there'll always be some people who try to learn flying the helis online but without bots that will be the majority of players. It won't be that much of an issue later on when the game gets no more new players but especially during the early months you'll see many people who don't even know what gun XY does or what some vehicle is good for.
Plus it'll be much harder for mod authors to test their code if they need to organize some twenty players for every test run to get the full picture.
Not all companies slap 2048x2048 textures on the whole game for PR purposes and ship it with 1024/512s and half the polycount.
I'm guessing what you see in those screens is what you really get, which is great
And yeah, bots are great target practice and better to learn the game than playing alone on an empty map... you still want to have some fun learning it afterall.
As far as learning the weapons and vehicles, Splash is creating a single player tutorial/intro of sorts that will get all players ramped up to speed and allow them to putz around a bit before jumping into an online game.
Yeah, ET was a blast. Right up there with Team Fortress classic for me.
Just loved being that annoying mortar man. 8 kills at a pop! Class balance on a team was so important that I'd switch around a lot, filling in gaps, and giving the team that extra push. Very satisfying.

And yes, given Splash Damage's cred for crafting great team play... this game is looking better all the time.
What happened with that mech design though, seriously?

A Strogg would tear you up with his bare hands, I'd be more worried about teammates that think they're funny.
Overall it looks almost like present day, not really Quakeish.

Anyways, Bots can be really great for anger managment unless they run you over with the humvee..
Bots are somewhat useless I agree, but I'd still like the option just in case.

Slashdot habit (everyone does it there). And I don't need to load a new page for that.

Plus you don't get a feel for what the weapons are good for (and the general balancing) without anything to shoot at.
