Hi all.

I'm the project leader of a new project coming out around mid 2006.

The game will be based on the Quake III engine, and is called 'Oceans' or 'Oceans32' at this stage of development - atleast as a project name.

It will be the first feature game from Root32 Interactive - a subdivision of Root32, which is a foundation that releases websites/programs/games. Some GPL, some not.

In simple terms, the game will be a MMOFPS, and will be similar to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Skill and strategy will be a key part of the game to win. The battles will be fought on ships. Players will be on the ships and can also use weapons on the ships. A better concept document will be provided to those interested.

We currently have a staff list of 11 people, not including the voice and musical talent. We keep contact through MSN Messenger and we have a private forum & FTP for the project, so that staff can keep in contact and share ideas/files/etc. There will also be a public website for the project with a development blog coming very shortly.

At this stage our programmers are working on the engine: mostly farmilirization and testing at the moment. So we think it's time to start the art development. After reviewing our current artist situation, we admit that we are not fully equipped just yet in the artists catergory. Some artists needed to be dropped, also.

This is for several reasons... Eg; Some of them are lazy or away too often.. and we have too many general graphics artists and not enough of the core artists: modellers, etc. Our team is very collaberated but we need more art staff, basically. And we see this so we're trying to fix it.

We have a great development enviroment.. Everything is contributed from our home computers rather than in buildings (obviously if it was in buildings then people would need to be payed), and you will soon learn that my style of operation is letting everyone in the project have a say; and keeping a very open dialogue.

Because of the way the project is setup.. There isn't an enormously large load to do.

What we require is:

Modellers (modellers will work on character/player models, vehicles (the ships), weapons, and some enviroments. Md3 and md4 models will be required.)


Animators (animators will do the usual tasks including reloading of guns, player model animation, and so forth.)


Level Designers (level designers are required for help in designing the ship's map feel, and designing levels for the ships to actually go on. This should be resonably easy considering the areas will be water and levels will generally consist of wide open spaces [sea])


Texturers/Skinning (almost filled) (texturers will be required to put some textures in to graphics made. We also require people to create realistic water, and a realistic skybox.. At the moment for the sky we're playing around with Terragen.)

As mentioned.. This is a collaborative MOD team project, and so obviously no one will be profiting from it at this stage in development. When it's close to finishing, we will use our publisher contacts to see if they are interested, and if the game earns profit then each individual working on the project will earn money based on their position and how much they've dedicated to the project (time and amount). But for now it's for enjoyment of a finished product, more experience, and references for the future.
