Is anyone else here into swords?

I like swords because they are always an important part of any fantasy story. Although I knew the story was fictional, I was able to have a bit of this story at home. That's how it began Is there anyone else here who is into swords?

I would say an axe is better than a sword! I would even go as far as to say that even a spear is better than a sword.

yes I have three japanese katana. I also have a wooden bokutou (the sort that japanese police sometimes carry, basically a wooden katana) that in it's lifetime has broken some unfortunate guys collarbone.

@Toomas: That depends, of course an axe or a hammer is better to crack heavy plate armor, which is why in the late middle ages they were used so often. But if you fight a medium armored opponent, I wouldn't want to stand there with a slow axe. Also a sword was lethal when thrusting an opponents chain mail. Spears were great weapons on distance, but not in close combat.

As for swords, they're cool, I like them, don't have any though. I used to fence, but I don't think a foil really counts... ¬_¬

Hey, Lord Scottish. Is that sword of yours ceremonial or battle-ready?

Personally, I've always wanted to collect swords, but I could never justify spending the money since I don't have a permanent home to display them in. Garg!

That looks very interesting cochtl! I wonder how heavy this thing is. It seems to have a full thang and is made of high carbon steel, so it's more or less battle-ready. The master sword is from zelda right?

well there's a universal joy to be found in destroying containers of liquid; from simply smashing a bottle or can manually, or shooting cheap cans of soda with various calibers of ammunition. haven't ever cut one "in twain" with a sword yet, i bet it would be fun

My girlfriend has sting, and hadhafang, with legolas fighting knives comming soon. We also have an elven warhelm, sauron's helm and his gauntlet all life size. And i also have a set of katanas.

I've done Filipino martial arts (sword, stick, and knifefighting) for quite a while, and have accumulated a few nice ones. I've got a really nice antique kris, likely from central area upper class. I've got a replica barong, which is a wide leaf shaped slashing short sword, and a good down and dirty fighting bolo. I'll post some picks when I get them.

I have more knives than I can keep track of. I have a 'play' jin-tachi on the way and I'm saving up for a real nice katana. Don't know why I haven't picked up a european sword yet, guess my tennessee toothpick will have to do till I get a new third leg...

You're right gauss! There is a special joy in destroying water bottles, as a kid I used to smash them on the ground from high places. I imagine shooting on waterbottles and making slow motion videos is interesting too

@Weiser_Cain: I especially like european swords for their variety and their flexible blade. Maybe I'll get a katana too someday, the hamon on the folded blade usualy looks very nice
