Maybe I'm picking up on "tris model" as a phrase, not a filename. Referring to the geometry in a tutorial or something, back in those beautiful days when few of us were smart enough to say "mesh"!

Actualy yeah, tris was what the default Q1 geometry name was, I think. Haven't looked at that stuff in years! CheapAlert'd know for sure, although you wouldn't thank him for it.

and yes, "tris.pcx" is indeed the default skinname of what id chose for their md2 models.
