really dig the texture and design man, nice one! Except for the eyes I think- they look a bit dead to me. I hope you'll make them look like a deep set gem like the concept, but I assume thats still to come. I like your colour choices too, thumbs up
Whilst I really do like the model and concept - the model seems to lack that certain something that the concept contains. I really can't put my finger on it - but theres just something about it. Could possibly be the head is not as circular? Not sure, either way - its still great work.
well, imho i think the concept has a better feel to it.
sort of like a raw non-stylized thing, and the eyes has a bit more soul as well.
an additional touch to the concept, is that it seems to draw the attention towards the head, instead of the torso.
and last the concept seems to have a bit more neck, which gives it a bit more feel of pride, compared to the completely neckless forward prong model.
I think his legs were a bit more balanced out in the concept, where you had them fatter. I also agree that the eyes could use a little more to them (like the concept had). I'm also not sure if it was on purpose, but he lost a toe on each foot from the concept
Cool concept and model. I like the changes you made to the mask in the modeling. And the textures look great, I dig the gradiating colors in the mask and on the body. Like everyone else, I'd like to see the life added back to the eyes. But amazing job all around.
I suppose I should be more pacific in what Im pimping, yes he will have a spec map to give him a twinkle in his eyes, and a slight bump as well.
A lot of the stuff you guys are talking about like the neck and his pride and whatnot can and will be solved in rigging.
Thanks for your thoughtfull crits.
The modeling is great for the little hero. But I'd really go for the exagerated proportions like you have in the sketch.
And if the texture is still a work in progress, then you can ignore this, but push the lighting in his texture. It's a little too flat. Try working more with painting highlights to bring out the form. Work with higher values to make it feel cartoony.
looking really sweet
maybe introduce some deep blue in his eyes?
the whole thing reads very warm and saturated, maybe too much, feels like it needs some cool or balance. the shaft for example looks more balanced to me.
Real nice work so far Ghosty boy. I think one area of critique I'll mention, is that you have a nice small scale level of grit on most of him, that isn't present in the arm and leg bands of wood. Add some of those curley cues of wood grain you have present in the mask to the wooden parts, and maybe some of that noise present on the spear head to the green bands. If you do that, I think they will all be a t a similar level of detail. Right now they just look blurry in comparison to the rest.
Keep it up man. Plus I'm with shotgun about introducing some small areas of cool contrast.
Looks sweet as Josh. Wouldn't you want the blue in the upper half of the sphere of the eyeball, underneath the hi-lights, and a brownish or green tone for the bottom?
