Hey guys, I have been working on a prison environment, and now it is time to texture it. I have been comtimplating if I should use seamless textures primarley for large portions of the jail (like the floor), or actually make UV maps for them, and make it one whole texture.
I decided to go with seamless textures on the larger areas, and I am going to give other things their own texture space. The question I have is, for the parts that I want to have seamless textures on..do I have to UV map it? This is what I currently have :
I am just scaling the UV's up or down to my liking. Is this how seamless textures are UV'ed?
Also, I would like to add more detail to my seamless textures, but im afraid if I do, people will definatly be able to tell it is repeated. How would you recomend adding detail without it looking half assed?
Here are a couple pictures of how my first seamless texture looks in the scene :
And this is the texture (I know, its photosourced, but im still learning PS!) :
Thanks for the help guys.

You could also work on removing more of the repeating patterns.
Can you have another seamless texture on top.. whats that called again? I mean its a alpha planned seamless texture that you can paint on with a brush on top of your initial layer in the game to break up the pattern randomly. Sometimes these can be multiple layers deep.
