The sketch shows promise; the model needs to absorb some of it's flair. Try making some of the details more bold (larger feet for example) so that they can been seen more clearly from a distance. Often modelling from sketches, one needs to exaggerate slightly so that the model keeps some character about it.
Also, consider your polycount. What is the current polycount and / or target platform you are aiming towards? At the moment this model looks fit for next gen but even so, it uses more polygons that a next gen model would require. Try to condense the polycount on areas that are immediately picked out by the eye. This is also true of textures.
