Please have a look, hopefully I can finish a few more pieces of art before my vacation ends. Also I run 1280x960, but I think the site should be okay at 1024x768
Awesome stuff Malcolm. Great variety and quality. The highpoly objects are very neat and well-made, I especially like the look of the metal on the front of that Spas12.
Actually, all of the materials you've done look very accurate and realistic.
The low-poly environments are nifty too, I remember you posted those here a while back. Solid work, very atmospheric.
My only crit is maybe you should get some dedicated webspace, this free ISP-hosted site seems pretty slow, it takes much longer than expected to load each page and image.
Shoot, I didn't realize it was so slow, but I've only tested on my other computer downstairs, I'll test at EA and rockstar and then check out some local paid webspace, perhaps I can get a way better web address as well.
Hmm, might just be mine, then. Or maybe some transatlantic issues... I have 4mb cable, and UK sites seem to be loading fine, just overseas sites seem to be a little slow today. Maybe Telewest are doing some maintenance on the lines or something.
No speed issue here. Really immaculate work malcolm. Very simple site. The work speaks for itself. The spas and the Mac10 are stunning actually. HDRI setup there? You've got a really keen eye for lighting.
PolyMonkey, thanks, the idea was to try and eliminate as much of the website as possible to streamline why you would actually go there, which would be for the art of course.
Daz, the guns have a raytraced reflection from an hdr dome, but it isn't casting any light. The guns are lit with a pretty simple 3point light rig, but the raytrace reflection and specular map make them look fancy pants.
hawken, have you been to Brighton Beach, I know Daz has. Apparently they play basketball in Braitain I had no idea until I saw the reference shots and there was 300 people crowded around that court.
excellent work ... the simplicity of the site is really good for a portfolio site too, except there's one thing i'd prefer to have seen : simple "back" and "main page" links on each gallery and subsquent image page. They can just sit in the corner, out of the way (could even use tiny icons with some alt text) so they don't need to clutter anything up ... but they'll really help with navigation. I don't like having to rely on the browser's back button since you can never predict how someone may be navigating your site, especially when looking at several sites at once ... i'm forever opening links in a new window, but closing down the page i've just come from either by mistake or to make room on the taskbar, etc etc. And when the link history is lost, i'd have to rely on the address bar ... which, come to that, reveals another problem in practice ...
You'd do better to name "main.htm" as "index.htm", allowing you to cut the url down to "http://www3.telus.net/malcolm" ... also has the massive advantage of hiding from the regular viewer all the other stuff stored at that location that you might not want people to see
awesome website, you have some really great environments. I like the NBA street & Def Jam levels, because you showed them in wireframe too, so I could see how you created an illusion of the world around the player.
Kickass modeling and some really solid enviroments. Realistic and atmospheric work. I have one question about http://www3.telus.net/malcolm/brighton2big.htm though that I wondered about since the last time you posted it. Why is that brick tile in the lower part of the picture so absolutly humongous? The scale doesn't make any sense when you look at the other bricks or any other object in the scene.
Cubik, the brick tile was on purpose. We had no mipmapping in that game so when you pull the camera down to an in game view you get really bad aliasing and moire on flat planes, we did a pass near the end of the project where we tiled textures less to fix this in gameplay cam, the downfall is they look bad in some other cameras.
Jelmer, thanks buddy, indeed I had quite a few smirnoff that night.

Great stuff, keep it up!
Nice simple site. Loads of good work.
