I played F.E.A.R. for a couple of hours last night and I really like it so far. The gun battles are fun.. I really enjoy the feel/sound of the weapons which add to the overall ambience of the game. Love the fact that you can do melee attacks and bullets blow out chunks of the wall or kick up dust in firefights. Not too dark like Doom3, and just a little erie at parts so far, but the story line is believable and keeping me in the game. It reminds me mostly of Half-life with a little bit of Max Payne and HL2 industrial thrown in. Aside from the re-hashed enviroments and the overuse of the word "fuck", it's a great game so far imo.

So, did you find it believable that they send it the rookie, alone, to deal with a batallion of soliders? Oh, and they only gave him a pistol
But I bought the game today I'm just fuckin stoked as hell, the way the game fluently progresses through gameplay/cinematic and the story is impressive. It almost feels like a Future-Merc game with an unnerving blend of Silent Hill Horror (minus the monsters).
It's also certainly the best lookin FPS out there, looks like a lotta tight parallax mappin bein used or atleast sumthin similar.
Those are just my first impressions after playin it for only 2 hours.
2 thumbs up and a boner,

Directors cut version is probably worth the extra ten Australian dollars (about half that for you Yanks). Directors commentary is a little dry and not nearly technical enough for my liking but theres still bits that are interesting. Making of video is very much in the vein of those Hollywood making of docos that consist of a lot of back patting and not much content. Still quite entertaining. The prequel movie which is the combines version of what KP posted is an impressive piece of work particualrly for something that I can't see getting much in the way of budget. Theres also an episode of the Rooster Teeth Machinema on there that I have yet to watch. I would assume its the first ep. The included comic book is very short and basically covers the events of the opening sequence from the villains perspective.
Overall, its nothing jaw dropping, but worth dropping the few extra bucks for, I reckon.

I liked the ending, felt very "movie-like" and scared the shit out of me...thank god i have a flashlight!

Other then that, the gunfights are awsome!

EDIT: Is that just at the beginning or are the dual pistols really that powerful? One or two shots down an enemy, good precision, perfect for getting as many as you can before your bullettime runs out.
there are much more powerful weapons, but those come later in the game.
To be honest, I get bored to tears with single player for almost every shooter game that I have ever played. But I'm all about the multiplayer competition.
if you have beaten the game then you know what i'm talking about.....
Yes the pistols are easily one of the best weapons in the game, just wait until you play around with the particle rifle and the repeating cannon, pretty much 1-hit instant kills regardless where you hit the target
I have a funny suspicion BIOS is owning your asses.

You would be correct in that suspicion. Although I have managed to beat him on score a number of times by preying on the weaker players here in the office. One on one he owns me almost every time, though.
FEAR just seems so bland & the levels are so boring & uninspired(so far). "Oh boy...another office building & warehouse". The enemies inspire similar feelings...
Semi-generic special ops/army/swat/whatever guys... Blah.
Not that Quake cyborgs are original or fresh, its just a much more fun & compelling experience for me.
Ely: Indeed, I'm not sure what gave them the idea that you can have a scary game that doesn't involve scary fights. It feels like two different ideas forcefully combined, on one hand "horror game", on the other hand "modern combat FPS". It's only horror if there's something to be afraid of!
As well as fixing some minor localized bug issues, this update also contains the brand new "Asylum" Multiplayer Map.
The patch will also pre-patch the game in preparation for the upcoming release of the F.E.A.R. Software Development Kit mod tools.
Patch size = 120mb (shocking, all new games seem to come out with a patch on release the size of an old game.)

Personally, I don't think the demo does the full version justice, but if you want to get an idea of the game, it's worth the download.
Hopefully the SDK is coming soon
