Alright, some of you pressured me into showing this stuff, so here we go!
I'll start off in chronological order with Imperator
I started on the world team, and I made some blown up buildings and communication towers. This building is made up of corner pieces, a 3-intersection and a straight segment. Each were around 3k tris, I belive. And then they had about 7 materials each sharing the textures.
There were going to be a few towers placed about on a coastline. I think this guy was about 6-8k tris with a full interior with computer terminals. I'm pretty sure I only used 13 materials on this guy. I still didn't have the 'tiling texture > all else' mentality down for doing the world objects at the time, and I think I could have made it look nicer at a higher res with more polys and time, but it's always like that, right?
One of the last few things I did for Imperator was working on Rome. I was making huge building sets for instanced missions. Ben had made a high/lo poly female statue body that I added clothing to, composited and was going to place them in these buidings. Statue was like 2.5-3k with a 1024x512 diffuse, normal, color spec and gloss.
This was the last thing that I finished for the game. They wanted to make the area more roman, so what better way to do that, then the Pantheon!?
To be continued...

tgz : I guess this is because he's mirrored/shared uvs for all the big pillar things and max7 renderer doesn't like this it seems (or at least I haven't figured out how to yet) he would have to assign another material with inverted x and y for all the mirrored stuff so that it looks ok, hopefully game engines handle it perfectly (and max 8 renderer too, it seems)

Thanks vahl, you were able to put it nicer than I would have. Given how immense TGZ's knowledge of Max and normal mapping, he should have known this already.
Just wondering, PolyMonkey, on the 2nd image you posted, up in the top left there's a building with a huge worn dented area, was that done by using a normal-mapped decal on a separate UV set? Seems like a technique that would be really useful for stuff like that... just curious
MoP : yeah great effect indeed, you'll see it in F.E.A.R too, looks like a multitexture sprite (composed by diffuse, normal, etc).

I'll try to render up the rest when I get back from Prague.
Buildings look great, Kman. Your female statue could have used more nude boobage. But hey
As an example, this is what the first building ended up being changed into. The red I kind of digged, the white... not so much.
I worked on this character with Nate LaMartina. Erik Ehoff did the concept.
Actually, it's a straight up decal with a different set of uv's like you said, but no normal map, just a diffuse. KMan actually did the original asset.
Was it completely canned? I thought it was just put on the backburner or something so they could concentrate on Warhammer...?

Taimaishu: Yeah, damn shame it was cancelled in favour of yet another generic fantasy MMORPG.

you guys can see gameplay!! what an awesome talent.
believe me, and everyone else who worked on it.. cancelling it was the BEST thing they could of done..
and i think the warhammer universe is the furthest thing in the fantasy genre from generic..

All I did for the unicorns was add the goatee, horn, hair tuft around horn, tail wrapping, and the loving hair. Was only meant as a joke, but I guess it's a really hard quest now. ^_^
