Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way (script or otherwise) to lock the color info of a given vertex. I often get an area of a mesh painted the way I wanted, but then accidentally destroy it when painting near it. Doh.
You can't really lock the colour per say, but you can lock the translations. As a workaround you can set a vertex colour key so if you accidentally paint over it just move the time slider back to zero and your colours will return. Here is the tutorial.
Before beginning, make sure the object has some construction history. If it does not have construction history, the colors per vertex feature will fail to set a key. You can quickly create history on a model by choosing Edit Polygons > Move Component, but moving nothing.
On a given frame, assign colors to selected vertices. The color assignment operations are under the Edit Polygons > Colors menu, such as Apply Color and the Paint Vertex Color Tool.
Choose Edit Polygons > Color > Set Vertex Color Key. (You cannot use any other keyframing method.)
