I'm getting this mainly because I liked Doom3 and want more. Nothing about Q4 really excites me, but I'm hoping for the best. If it's easy to make custom players, I'd like to make one for sure. Around the same week, FEAR, Serious Sam 2, and about 10 other games I want come out.
Yeah I agree millia. i miss those days so much. From what i could tell at quake con the framerate never dropped dramaticaly. I don't know if they improved on any net code or anything because it was a lan game. Doom3 seemed fine over lan.
also since it's one md5mesh instead of 3 friggin md3s with vertex animation i may be able to crank out more models for it (also even better because Blender has a good md5 import/export script)
I wonder if they'll use as many animations as e.g. UT or Half-Life or if they'll use less different animations to make custom anims easier? In Q3A, each character had his own animations. Compare that to UT2003/04 where all of the characters move roughly the same.
I remember Q2 had a great atmosphere to it when I first booted it up on my PC all those years ago. The graphics then were the hottest. Today I hope that Q4 will take that Stroggos world atmosphere and blend it with really cool graphics as in Doom 3. There will be a certain emphasis on the singel player experience, that Q3 did not have at all. Q4 will also have a great multiplayer experience that Doom3 lacked. It is a must have.
Has anyone any info on what the different versions are, ie does the collectors version come with any extr dev tools, the pricing adds 30% for what appears to be just a change of media (DVD)?

The price difference here is 6.7% ($NZ84 vs. $NZ90). Most games are around $NZ90, so I guess everyone will be going for the SE until they run out.

*SIGH* For the Quake 3 days..
can't wait to get cracking on making some characters for this.
I'm not gonna preorder it, but I'll buy it once it's in the shops.
I didn't think it would be all that great.
But EDGE had a great article on it a couple of months ago, and it got me all excited about it.
And now you say it's gone gold?
Damn, I need a job.

Not entirely sure why I'd want this.
I want Q4 because the Q3 community here faded a couple of years back, and I want that LANning, fragging, low-ping goodness back again.

It's similarity to Q3 is exactly why I want it
The Quake games never really grabber my attention, but I have faith in Raven.

* The official making of QUAKE 4
* QUAKE 2
* QUAKE 2 Expansion Packs: Reckoning and Ground Zero
From what I understand, the multiplayer runs alot smoother than Doom 3's did.
