I´d like to know how others work on wrinkles on the clothes. I´m working on some hi-res characters for normal mapping and i´m a bit lost on the topic.
How about using some plugin like clothfx or simcloth? What about zbrush?
One of the modelers here has tried cloth sims and zbrush, but prefers modeling the creases by hand, for better control. I agree, and I think the results speak for themselves.
For games, you're definitely better off modeling the wrinkles by hand. Watch your edge loops and try to make the topology follow along with the wrinkle. If you're going to use normal maps, you can also try adding them in ZBrush.
Or if they are not too extreme, just paint a bump map in Photoshop and use the Nvidia normal map filter to make a normal map. Composite this with your Z-Brush extracted normal map.
I was planning to add the small wrinkles with the ps filter, but the big ones will be done by hand. Here at the studio we have done some tests with the cloth extension, and well, it works very good. The problem is when you have some kind of special clothes, like a soldier pants or whatever, where the setup before the simulation is much more difficult. Probably it would be helpful to have a pants cutted by the seams to really see how the template is on a plane.
Anyone here of you knows where could I see some work from others covering this topic? To be honest, is my first time doing this kind of clothes and I´m a bit confused.

I´m modeling a character for a videogame (a swat guy) and i´m having tons of problems doing the wrinkles on the pants.
Not my best day :P
thanks!
