It would be in RIAAs best interest to settle this out of court. Even if they have the big time lawyers, the public eye would be focused on them.
Oh, and if what the plantiff is saying is true.. Thats totally fucked up. She didnt do it, and instead of them proving it, they can ruin what little credit she has in basically a blackmail conspiracy.

An employee of Settlement Support Center admitted to Ms. Andersen that he believed that she had not downloaded any music. He explained, however, that Settlement Support Center and the record companies would not quit their debt collection activities because to do so would encourage other people to defend themselves against the record companies claims.

"we know you didn't do anything, but you still owe us hundreds of thousands of dollars, even tho you're disabled." That's seriously fucked up. Perhaps they shouldn't have started throwing lawsuits at everyone in the first place, and learned to adapt to the modern times.

"According to cdfreaks.com the RIAA has lost the case against the mother of a 13 year old girl accused of file-sharing violations." From the article: "The case was dismissed with prejudice, which prevents the case from being advanced against the defendant. Finally, the RIAA tried asking the Judge to amend the judgment in order to allow them to sue the child through a Guardian Ad Litem. However the court denied [the] RIAA's request."

I, for one, believe the RIAA needs to be smashed into the ground.
Yeah, big big example of bad long-term planning. It looks like the RIAA believes that their legal actions are really a publicity campaign. The RIAA's people admit that they have no legitimate case, but they won't back down from any accusation they make, because that would mean the Evil Downloaders might doubt their ultimate cosmic authority.
This is the same thing as Texas prosecutors putting men on death row to look tough on crime, even though they know for a fact that the men are innocent.
And you know what? All the people responsible for those unreasonable actions probably grew up going to church and everything.
