    it's a weird situation that although ati does the graphics for xbox2 you need a nvidia board if you want to "pre develop" based on sm3.0. not the smartest move by ati, not having a similar graphics board before the start for the pc, as nvidia with their geforce 7 similar to the one in ps3.

    Huh, wonder why that is? Maybe the Nvidia card was simply a rush-job, to get a 3.0 card on the market, but maybe the card cut corners. Just guessing here.

    I would think ATI would provide a way to emulate 3.0 shaders in software or somesuch, to at least get people started with the tech. Probably something there that's "your eyes only" for the registered developers. Being that we're reg'd devs with Nvidia, I know they do have exclusive tools available.

    I don't think NVidia cut corners, they just put more research into features while ATI aimed for more raw performance at the time.
