Lead Environment Artist
Irrational Games is the award winning developer of System Shock II and Freedom Force, both of which are feature in IGNs top 100 games of all time. Irrational Games has studios in Boston, MA and Canberra, Australia. Founded in 1997, the company is dedicated to bringing deep RPG and strategy games to both the PC and next-generation console markets.
Irrational Games Boston is looking for a lead environment artist to work on upcoming industry-leading titles for next-gen console. The ideal candidate will be able to lead a team of talented, creative individuals in creating innovative, consistent, top-quality art.
Candidates must be able to both concept and build a wide variety of game content. 3d modelling skills (3D MAX), texture creation and drawing skills are required.

Job requirements:
· Collaborate with the Art Director to lead the creation of consistent, high-quality work.
· Model, texture and light 3D environments for a state of the art next-gen game engine.
· Break down work-load, manage a team of environment artists.
· Work with the Project Lead to schedule and track environment art efforts.
· Drive communication with other leads to ensure that the environment team is meeting the project needs.
· Meet project deadlines and milestones.
· Mentor environment artists in best practices and processes.
Required skills:
· Outstanding communication skills.
· Ability to lead a team to work within technical constraints and generate top-quality art.
· Ability to create a highly modular, reusable building system.
· Ability to plan, schedule and anticipate problems before they happen.
· Clear understanding and implementation of technical guidelines and constraints.
· Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments.
· Strong leadership skills.
Highly desirable skills:
· Ability to imagine, visualize and conceive objects, characters or other game elements to drive the overall visual quality of the product.
· Experience working with offsite team members/outsourcing.
· Traditional art skills candidates with a fine arts background are strongly preferred.
· Capable of creating any aspect of a 3D game environment including modelling, texturing, and lighting of terrain, architecture, world objects and collisions.

· Have a strong technical aptitude for 3D modelling tools and game engine technologies.
· Be able to combine ideas and methodologies of environment production to create an efficient, streamlined pipeline that other environment artists can follow.
· A strong comprehension of architecture and landscape.
· A fluent knowledge of 3ds Max and Photoshop.
· Excellent lighting skills.
· Experience with animated environment effects (such as particles).
· Four years of applicable industry experience.
· A genuine enthusiasm and interest in video games.
