working on model(2500polys)noticed in material editor under my diffuse texture that there is a colour option that you van raise to 100% (seems to increase brightness)default is 0(seems to make it darker as if lots of shadows are on model) can also check and a colour appears of which you can change.I have no lights only default lighting
What i would like to know is for my character (aimed a videogame portfolio) what setting do you guys have it at?
Thanks

that option there is global illumination, 100% would be even lighting from all directions. what you set it to really depends on what you're doing. If you want to check, or show off, a texture you're working on, turning it up to 100% can be useful since you won't have any shading from external lighting, all you'll see is the shading in the texture. I've also used it to make an object into a light. Not sure what values you'd want for a portfolio, I'm guessing pretty low since it would make anything look pretty flat.

Also make sure that you tick in Vertex Color under Display tab -> Display Properties to be really sure that you have removed all shading.

    Soccerman, It's actually "self illumination".

Global Illumination is a type of lighting technique, that uses direct light as well as bounce light (radiosity) to light your scene.

Self illumination the property that defines the percentage of light and shadow affecting an object.
