incrament saving + autobak every 10 minutes with 8 bak files.
plus ctr+s often enough.
While photoshop is kinda reliable, 3dsmax is terrbily buggy sometimes. Especially when it comes to import obj files from zbrush. Argh. Downtimes and crashes....
yes ctrl s has become my friend. However, even then I make sequential saves. YOuever had a hard crash that makes it so you cant even open the previous file you had??...
I don't think Photoshop has ever crashed on me. 3dsmax crashes are rare, but I have 5 autoback files saved at 3 minute intervals, means I hardly ever lose anything even if the whole computer decides to shut down for no reason.
i ctrl-s in XSI often, because its autosave and backup funtions are weird. plus, not good when autosave kicks in while doing a region render. no problem with photoshop, I'm using version 6.
I don't hit CTRL-W (habit in Blender, CTRL-S would work, too) that often, Blender doesn't crash much and usually the autosaves work. Photoshop never crashed on me so far and I usually only save (to PSD, saving to TGA happens more frequently, of course) when I'm taking a break and do something else.
Never had photoshop crash on me, but when modeling I usually save a new file when I get another section completed. So make an arm, save, make a head, save, etc.
I never use Im a hard worker and I go to the file tab and press save, you all should use me as a role model.
But I still do save every five minutes...its become quite a habit...
I usually save every 10-15min, and each time I do, I'll check the file into the server.
At home, I have 2 external 120GB drives, so I make multiple versions of each file. When the file is finalized, I'll go back and delete the 'working' files, and keep the final.
Here's one for you. I don't trust control+s because sometimes when I press it, the mofo doesn't save. This is photoshop btw. So I always save with the mouse and then I know it's worked. Saving from the menu is like locking a giant padlock with a Daihatsu Charade sized key
There are certain actions which require a Ctrl+s passport before I even think about letting them run - booleans for example, or anything to do with auto-reducing polies or baking textures.

The same bullshit happens to me and a few others here at work. Every once in a while Photoshop CS hates it if you erase or use the clone tool on a layer and restarting the program doesn't help! That layer is toast. Even duplicating the layer just accomplishes duplicating the issue. We have to copy and paste into a new layer then delete the old layer. Drives me nuts.
Yeah I tend to ctrl s a lot during the day but it never fells that the one time I dont, is the time that a crash will happen and I loose work.
Back when I was a graphics teacher the students would get frustrated with me for repeatedly saying Save and Save often!
sometime i get wierd crashes while i'm modeling, and when I reopen the file it corrupts it (even with the autoback), and if i try making the same operation with an older version of the model it crashes, so at the end I have to export/import it into .3ds...
I have this one custom brush in photoshop that if you use it long enough -especially with lots of short strokes- photoshop will crash. I need to have a very close look at the brush settings I guess. I really like it the way it is though
I save a new version every time I do something I think is worth keeping. I have over a hundred iterations of the model I'm working on right now. So I guess my answer would be no, I don't ctrl-s.

And CTRL+S is habit now.
I use it lots a day too - but for our credit software.
So let's see... about 624 times per day.
