Sett: whenever it's blatently visible to most people it becomes a problem. Poor specular maps and shading setup (aka phong for metal where a blinn or cook-torrence would work better). HL2 used normal maps to greatly improve the look of the levels, but used hem subtle enough to not stand out like a sore thumb.
It's like when you play guitar and here another guitarist play a song 'off', gaaa!@*& A non player wouldn't hear it but.. bugs me. Try telling a LedZep fan that Jimmy Page is sloppy player.(blasphemy!)
It looks like it could be interesting, but as with any game/movie you gotta wait until you try it yourself as your opinion matters most when it comes to enjoying a game.
Sett: I know how you feel about things sticking out more than normal, a good dev team can make you forget that and focus on the game and not think twice about how everything is normal mapped.
I'm realy starting to dislike the nomal mapping look. And all games will have it for the next 3 or so years e-yaaaaa!1!1!!.

What's that opinion got to do with this trailer for a Playstation2 game? The PS2 doesn't support per pixel shaders and so there aint no normal mapping in this trailer.
When will people understand that specular shaders and normal mapping are not the same thing?
I hear pretty good things about this game. Looks nicely over the top.
I have high hopes for this game. I nearly got to work on it, but lack of Maya skills let me down. My old lead at Rage is lead character artist on Black. He likes things that blow up
I also know they play a lot of Halo2 deathmatch there.
Looks pretty cool, especially for PS2. I just don't like FPS's on consoles, though... even from that trailer, the movement and looking around just seems so... robotic and stilted. That kinda comes with the territory for console FPS's, though, unfortunately.
Definitely seems like a lot of fun if you like blowing hell out of everything, though

It did look pretty impressive, especially for PS2. Looks like the glass in the windows is made of transparent C4
I too have yet to be convinced about FPS's on consoles. I played Halo on PC first, and can't stand it on my daughter's xbox.
