Custom controlls

I know this is probably really easy to figure out but i just cant figure it out for the life of me. In max7 i want to make my pan key to another key, but i dont know how. in the mouse properties, it only has an option for mouse3 to be pan/zoom or stroke, and no other mouse buttons to change. I would like the pan/zoom button to be on mouse4 instead.

How would i do this, or can i not change the pan/zoom key

I don't think you can change it in Max.
Maybe, just maybe you could do it with some mouse drivers (or Wacom if that's what you're using) in the control panel, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Bleh thnx anyways, i dont have a wacom yet, i jsut got a new 5 button mouse, and the middle mouse is a bit funky in max and driving me crazy. it would be so much easier if i could just use one of the thumb buttons

I found a way to fix this. I found new drivers for my mouse, and had the thumb button set to "middle-click" as its action. So now max reads the thumb button clicks as a middle button click and pans/zoom though i would post this if any one else wants or needs to change that on their mouse.

you're never talking about what kind of mouse it is
for my intellimouse explorer i had to download a driver, too because the one that's shipped with it doesn't support custom key bindings, go figure.
i somehow imagine you're using the same kind of mouse, since on the explorer the scrollwheel feels wacky for me when used as a third button and i had to remap it, too.
even a totally low-end ms optical mouse has a better scrollwheel/button, sheesh...
