don't knock it! I had Game Maker when I was a kid that allowed me to make games that looked like they were straight out of the 80s! It was fun and it kind of introduced me to the whole art pipeline involved in creating a game (up unil then I thought everything was done by programmers)
Hey! I worked with these guys. Nice chaps.
I dont think this product was meant for professionals,
but for people that dont know where to start and just
wants to have fun. Have a look under clients on our
homepage for some better screens.=) www.breakneckstudios.se , its the only client we have
on our page so far. Really need to update it.
You shouldnt bash it, the guy who made it is probably
proud and just starting to learn about game art.
It seems to be working aswell, he have at least managed
to get some own objects and textures in there.
Its a good start.

Was it the older, not-Mark-Overmars DOS version that had a demo game starring some brown bear throwing blue frisbees? If so GIMMEEEEE
Some of those screenshots weren't too bad. Some decent looking weapon models and what not. The engine at least seems to have decent lighting and textured particle effects.

RPGmaker 95 and 2000 both have garg cock, but too bad rpgmaker is abused for too many stupid "omg lets remaek final fantsy!" projects. At least I did a sort of comical rpg with it once

i've got version 1.3 which has a third disk LOL

I got it on CD much later...
RPG Maker looks like fun? There's a Fighter Maker? Must find this. What about a game maker capable of something like Gish...an updated platformer. Gish is awesome btw.

There's RPG Maker XP out there these days. There's also a Fighter Maker and a SHMUP Maker. Damn ASCII should localize their freaking toolkits.
[/ QUOTE ]
The story I heard is that ASCII got pissed that someone cracked and translated RPG maker so they decided not to release it outside of Japan.

That plan kinda backfires and encourages fanmade translations, doesn't it?

RPGmaker XP is too cutesy, and slow for me, and it feels like an update of the 95 version rather than the 2000/2003 versions. Also the wyvern has a cock this time around
Also Fighter Maker (both versions) aren't as easy as Mugen and there's hardly any docs for it
RPGMaker 2000 is the best version IMO, 2003's good but the battle system is a bit iffy.
One sheet of 12 24x32 8-bit graphics (8 of these sheets per image file), I think. Adjusting stats and stuff is WYSIWYG. At least for RPGM2k. May be more complicated for the newer ones that show your chars in battle like the Final Fantasy games.
The story I heard is that ASCII got pissed that someone cracked and translated RPG maker so they decided not to release it outside of Japan.
That makes no sense because they didn't localize it even before there were fan translations and I think the newer ones weren't even translated by fans. Either way, the fan translations clearly show demand for an english version and the fan versions weren't perfect.
A friend of mine introduced me to RPG Maker 2003, and wanted me to create character sprites for him. I never found the time to get into it and learn the rules, but from what he showed me, it looks nice. Just wish something like that would run full resolution with millions of colors, etc. And support for ogg.
BTW, how customizable is the battle system in the newer ones? I hated about 2000 how little you could customize the battle system. Meh, the combat system I have in mind would require coding my own game engine anyway, I don't think any japanese company would include the option for mouse controlled realtime battles in such a toolkit...
What do you guys think of Game Maker? You can make different kinds of games with it, like platform games, puzzle games and isometric games. I would like to try it out and make a small game with it, but I'm curious about other people's experiences with it.
Indeed, gamelogic is easy to code, just takes patience. When you have an engine the rest is easy. Apparently Pygame is a neat engine for Python and Python itself is damn easy to use.
man I miss SEUCK, loved playing around until I got AMOS3D
well anyways I was asked to post these up by one of the programmers of FPSC.
Not really used it, but it's very easy to create the levels from what I've seen. You create prefab sections in your prefered modeller, add new textures, models, etc.
Pretty much all drag'n'drop grid system. Simple Scripting System capable of editing things, plus I think there is a full source dump to Dark Basic Professional iirc.
It's good for people who don't have the coding experience to create mod, but want to make thier own stylised FPS.

Did the DOS GCS even have 10 features?
During high school I made games with this. :P
