Or its could be mental ray, the ears seem to be having the sss shader. But arshlevon can give us the right answer .

it was rendered in mental ray.. with the skin shader.. i am still tweaking values.. there is like a million of them.. i plan on making seperate maps for the different layers of skin..

One thing I'd like to see on the orc, is skin blotches. Sort of like liver spots. Lots of discolored patches of skin. Right now, even though he is wrinkled all up, his actual skin seems almost perfect. I think he needs some serious color damage as well.
Keep it up, just don't neglect your art test! *wink*
been steady at work on the art test.. that render was done in an hour and there are no maps on it yet.. it just the skin shader with pure colors in the slots.. when i get some time i will paint maps for the layers..
