i experienced a player using some sort of hack or cheat in an online chess game where as joining his table, i would already be in checkmate, causing me to lose the match. we started a new game and again, checkmate, i lost again.

the only conclusion for why he had chose to exploit a metagaming path was to increase his player rating.

feel free to share your thoughts. i had a question that was related to my story. i never care about them, but what do you feel it is that draws these types of players to points and highscores?

That's the kind of bad self-confidence problem that sees 'winning' as a much more important function that actually 'playing', or having such tedious acquisitions like 'skills'. They cheat so they don't risk the humiliation of losing, or any other validation of their aforementioned loserdom.

Dorks like that get on forums and shout about how big their balls are, even though said scrota are pumped full of hot air. I used to work for a company that built a little community game thingie, quite experimental. Our project lead noticed that most of the players (>20 yrs old) liked to brag and talk trash more than they liked to play. He concluded that the ideal game for them would be a WWF-style wrestling game, wherein trash talk would be an inherent mode of game play. That would have worked well, I think.

That's quite sad. Almost as lame as Warcraft 3 loss botters. With War3, some people would run a bot that would join games, then instantly leaving them. Most of the time the game type being random team, so the team that gets a loss botter is basically defeated. I can see a bit of logic in using hacks or bots to win, but i dont get why you would bot to loose.

Anyways, i think it's said. I care about my rankings most of the time, but not enough to use exploits or anything. Rankings only have meaning when they measure your skill level.

There are all sorts of pathetic low-self-esteem types out there who do much worse things than cheat in online games.
I had a girlfriend whos younger thug brother told me, "Whenever me and my friends are feeling bored or down, we just drive around and find somebody to beat up! hehehe, isn't that funny?"

People who engage in chat booting, game cheating or any of a bajillion other activities are really quite sad.
