I thought BG had a fantastic pilot and then just sank beneath the waves for the 1st season.
By the time it resurfaced, I found it's intensity to be marred by the unsubtle bible bashing and predictable plot turns.
A shame really as that blonde Cylon... well, I'd probably sacrifice mankind for a roll in the hay with her too
Some really nice stuff in there like the SFX of the guns in space and the Cylon redesigns but other than that I thought it
was a load of politically correct feminist morality infested bullshit in terms of its ethos and character interactions.
heh, so no, I don't really agree with you.
If you want to talk about quality american shows, check out Deadwood. This show is THE most amazing show I've seen come out of america since Twin Peaks.
I'd forgotten how incitefull american literature can be when its not stifled by the studio system and the Oprah mentality of the mainstream.
I've been routinely amazed at the quality of this show, from characters to plot to acting to dialogue to historical accuracy to set design through to costume design.
If it gets any better than this, point me to it!
I think what impresses me most about Deadwood is that its honest and I had given up on the ability of people here to be brutally honest about any subject in the mainstream media.
Judge me how you will for saying it, but this is not an honest country and the superficial veneer of this place is most clearly portrayed through television.
When a show like Deadwood comes along, well it makes me a lot more proud to be living here and makes me consider one day getting TV here
oh and yah B5 and Farscape, and yah for Ben Browder and Claudia Black, I'm glad to see they have a new home as I sure miss Farscape.

hehe the main characters from farscape are on stargate now as stargate ate farscapes ratings.

I honestly don't know why sg-1 has more of an audience then farscape... only things I can think of is that it started as a movie, and then went from showtime to scifi so it was able to hook in people along the way. Personally, I think the characters and plots suck... they're just not juicy and "real"... I just don't care about the characters... in farscape you CARE about the character because the actors are amazing and the plots have substance and make you itch of the next episode. And the only reason I'm watching the new season of stargate is because of Ben Browder and Claudia Black... they feed well off each other... though Claudia is missing now so the latest episode wasn't as entertaining.
As for BG... I watched the miniseries and really liked it but I haven't been sucked into the show yet. I actually like the original series alot more.
I'm with Ror on BSG, the miniseries was okay and then they went in the 'drama Drama DRAMA! In space, sometimes!' route, and it's just stupid. 'Look, we're all so gritty! Politics! Intrigue!' Bleah.
Stargate gets ratings because it's an action show, lots of shooting and fighting.
I liked (new)BSG but then I loved the old one too, I mean the new series I really like because it has a more gritty nature; so it's pretty true to the original. Rather than some whole do-gooder plotline you have some real character interaction. Kinda feels like a Space version of The West Wing though.. also a good show imo.
As far as Stargate goes, I love it; but then I've loved it since it started. I like how the character since Richard Dean-Anderson started co-producing have become more human in thier reactions and script. Something I'm not so happy about is how the stories now seem to revolve around epic fighting and such. Something that originally hooked me in wasn't so much the special effects and fighting but how it was just classic good Sci-Fi. Season 5-6 just before Dr Wyer were by far the best imo... they were far more based on earth, and revolved more around the characters and problems at home rather than the whole galaxy out there.
It's kinda annoying how they're now seeming to move the show to reach a more broader audience than before.
Can't wait for the new seasons of both SG-1 and Atlantis. I think what's best about both is more the humour involved. It's not something that they're trying to make you take seriously like Star Trek; and your not always confused like in FarScape.
Personally I much prefered Lexx to FarScape and FireFly, never been able to get into those other two. They just seems boring to me. Lexx however was quite out there and interesting.
Have to admit I liked Babylon 5 too, it was a good show; but it was one of those things that after the first season I could take it or leave it. Never felt it was 'as-good' later on. Excalibur was just dire.
