about the only things I can see a missing or wrong are:
1.) there is a little bead on the metal rim of the wheel just above the line of rivets, and that bead is there to keep the solid rubber tire on the road wheel from flaring out too much and delaminating from the road wheel.
2.)The tread links individually are missina a bit of detail but I don't oprecisely remember what eack cleat looked like so I'll have to find a book.
3.)The breech of the gun is missing the breech block, and the pintle for the supplimentary MG 34 or 42. MG.
4.)The Elevation wheel to the left side of the breechblock had off centered spokes and is missing the handle.
Otherwise this is a superb job and "reads" more like a 1 /1 object, than a model referenced from a plastic model kit.
thnx for the replies every1...
hey scott.. could u point out the mistakes by taking the image in photoshop..as i am not a weapons specialist and dont no which parts u r talking about .. like the breech of the gun, bleechblock, pintle and stuff..
kjm:ya im thinkin of doing a normal out of it.. it will be a good practice as it will be my first try...
thnx..
I think a problem that comes up all too often with this kind of modelling is the obvious "reffed from a model kit" look. Like the challenger currently over at CGTalk. I am glad to see as Scott says, that your model conveys a true scale.
Looks freaking awesome, bummer that generic GI render is hiding a lot of the detail, get a semi shinny material on it and do a nice 3 point setup render i say
thats not a tank, its a tank destroyer :P
nice model
the difference is in the way its used.
tank destroyers are lightly armoured, which specialize in ambushing enemy tanks. they protect the guys inside from a bit of spall, and some light fire like machineguns.
tank destroyers are also cheaper to make and maintain than tanks,
because of a less complicated structure(no turret), and lighter weight, which doesn't strain the drivetrain as much.
tanks are heavily armoured breakthrough weapons.
their prime purpose is to cut through enemy lines, and kill as much as possible on the way.
Actually The Marder was not a Tank Destroyer as much as it was Infantry Support. it was Mobile Artillery for reducing enemy machine gun nests and mortars, and supporting infantry on the attack, and occasionally Anti Tank duties.
It was built on reworked Czech M1938 Tank Chassis, and that Czech design, being more mechanically reliable than native German Designs was the basis for a lot of vehicles, including the Hetzer. For the marder they moved the engine to the fromt of the chassis, but otherwise the running gear is the same.

Plans to do a normal-map out of it?
