Normal-mapped alphas in max

Hi there, I'm running into a great problem to see my normal maps in Max 7 viewport, because when I hit the "dx display of standard material" checkbox and to show it in the viewport my mesh (actually a plane) disapears (I actually can see it's wireframe when i'm rotating the viewport).
Actually the metal bump works fine in my system and even when I render with the above method it works fine...

Specs:
I have an intel pentium 4 3.20 ghz 1024 of ram and an asus xt300se/t. with the latest Max7 service pack, drivers, and directx version.

My second question is about alpha maps;
_ is there a way to get the shadow of my alpha map? (getting the shadow of the actual plane)

Edit: fixed the shadow problem !!
