Those who are @ quakecon certainely already seen that, or mebbe even played it!!! Share !!
Very cool it looks like the physics and weps are very similar to Quake3. I'm glad they didn't go the Quake2 slo-mo route. I'm looking forward to more freefall railsprays
I'm sorry. But the gameplay elements that Q3 introduced are horrible. It makes it too newbie friendly and takes away the necesity to play the game to get better at it.
Q4 multiplayer should be nothing more than a graphical overhaul of Q2 multiplayer.
You mean Quake "let's throw in even more stuff noone needs!" 2? Suffers from the same disease as Super Mario Bros. 3 aka more equipment than you'll reasonably want.
Looks like nothing new gameplay wise, hehe. They might as well just sell Radiant as a standalone product. It'd be worth it just for the instruction manual!
Q3 Rocket Arena was the shit, rocket jumping, mid air shots, rail from across the map etc. I prefer a more simplistic and boxy level design for this kind of multiplayer because the last thing you want is to get stuck on shit all the time in the heat of battle. I had pretty low expectations for Q4, but from these vids it's looking good to me

It's fucking Q3 all over again.

Although I will say I loved the hell out of RA3.
Hopefully there will be a RA4
I'm at qcon right now and ive played it a few times. Its like they crossed quake2 deathmatch, quake 3 deathmatch, and doom3 graphics all together. I'm not a fan of doom3 online play because the game seems to bog the system so badly. But it played great on the alienware systems they had set up.
Over all I really like where raven is taking it. Very cool stuff being shown here at qcon.
I agree with the quake2 supporters here; quake2 had a clunky metalic-ness to it that hasn't really been seen in games since. ActionQuake2 was my favorite mod of all time.
But the real sucky thing about quake2 DM is that you really had to know what you were doing when it came to finding a server, I hated trawling barrys on Gamespy etc to find somewhere to play.
For me QuakeIII introduced several awsome things to the mix:
* easier to make and install custom players
* find servers for a quick frag, inside the actual game!
* weapons were more interesting IMHO
QuakeIII was much more accessible to gamers in need of a quick frag than Quake2. (not to mention mod makers and budding player modellers.) Not that I'd in any way disrespect Quake2, just Quake4 looks to me like a perfect evoloution of the series.
(edit)
And I hope there's a tonne of room for us to make custom player models! Kick some life back into the scene.
Dont get me wrong fatality is super good, but why is he being put against such inexperienced players?
EDIT: You know what I wish Raven and ID would do and what REALLY got me stoked to play Quake 3? They had the Demo/Beta open play BEFORE it was released. Thats what hooked me.
In fact one fo the reasons I never got Quake 2 back then was because it had no MP demo.
Man, that fatal1ty guy is sick. I can't wait to see the vehicles too (or is that only in single player?)
Oxy, in the QuakeconX vid they said activision is beta testing as well as the attendees.
Indeed I find it quite frustrating how instead of getting a nice taster before hand to help make ur desicision of buyin the game when it comes out... it's recently turned in somes cases completely backwards, so u have to wait a month after the games already out there on the shelves before u get a demo.
vee---hicles in multiplayer games have always tended to suck. Even on Lan.
Those vids make it look like Q4 is a real mixed bag, with DM being some extra thing not connected to the main game at all. Not that I'm complaining. I'll still buy a copy.
I hadn't watched the vid yet. Haha, he steamwalzed over the poor kid. They didn't make the kid play him though, since at the Creative booth they had Fatality coming back from his 'retirement' to take all challenges.
Fatality's an ass though for taking them out with the gauntlet. Now i still didn't get to see much of the new weapons why you no shoot rail

What, are you still living in 1999 when Counterstrike seemed like a good idea? These days we have games like Battlefield or UT 2004 where the vehicles do NOT suck!

The trade off is art for framerate I guess...so i shouldn't complain too much.

Doom 3 uses less polies than UT2, probably because it has to render every poly once per light (plus one additional time to write the depth buffer...).
Looks fairly cool to me
I think I just spent my wad.

I prefer Q1 or Q2 gameplay. Regardless, Q4 could still be fun. I just won't be playing it years after its released.
sorry, but quake wars has my interest. quake 4 is looking like doom 3.1 for single player and quake 3.5 for multiplayer
I loved Quake 3 and deathmatches. This is really starting to get my interest.

Agreed. Newbie friendly? That's UT imo, not Quake (3).
Not until you get in to flick shooting and what-not does it become "non-newbish".

+1
I was so afraid it was going to be like the Doom3 DM.
Shame the guy didnt show the railgun and that he didnt try to rocket/grenade jump or bunnyhop.
