Preserving vertex weights in Max

Hiya

I've already created a NPC model, unwrapped it, skinned it, and created a set of animations for it.

I thought it was done but my coder massah wants me to add more to the mesh along with a couple of new bones to control it. I just need to add to the mesh, not edit/delete any existing geometry.

Is this possible without losing all my existing vertex weights? The mesh is an editable poly right now and only has the skin modifier on the stack.

I have no problem redoing the vertex weights but it would sure be nice to not have to wink.gif.

Sorry if some of the terminology is incorrect, I'm still learning.
