1 step closer to solving all the problems of MAN ...now all they need to do is put that technology in a REAL doll and program it to also make food and fetch beer and im set. God bless the japanese * tear *
I think I remember seeing a video of her in action that was pretty creepy...anyone got a link ?
Somehow the Japanese should really know better. They have created Anime, which really is close to the perfect stylization that is needed to 'jump over' the uncanny valley.

Pretty convincing. I think its awesome how japan has so many different groups working at all these angles coming up with different robots. Robots are awesome!
The Uncanny valley stuff was done in the late 70s too. I'd think generations have changed a lot.
We kill and drive over innocents by the doucents everyday in games, find anime chicks hot and love Ghost in a shell.
What a load... Its all robot underneath with an OK latex shell of a woman overtop. you can buy something like that already. Hardly what id call a "female robot"

Sheesh, they need to get some better motors in there and hire a proper animator! The animations suck, the "model" can probably be done better by other companies as well but I don't think we should try to make androids look too realistic. I mean, we won't see any form of larger robot become commonplace anyway, not with all this terorism paranoia going on. Can you imagine how much explosives you can stuff into a large robot? Unlike cars they could go into a crowd and are more mobile. Robots that blend into the crowd would be very dangerous. A suicide bomber takes years to train and is one-time use only, a robot takes a few days to program and arm and doesn't even need a backpack or something.
Even if noone actually builds a walking bomb, imagine what if you had cities with lots of robots on the road and sudently the news start suggesting that any of them could explode at any time?
i'm getting a little tired of everyone parroting the uncanny valley business every time questions of either humaniform robots or, more commonly, CG people come up. while it does help explain why these kind of things can be highly unsettling, there's more to it than that. and in the case of this particular robot, the stated aim is to make a robot that looks like a person and he readily admits that it only "fools" people for 5-10 seconds tops. they're not going to beat the uncanny valley effect if they don't try, and it's a little silly to bring up the obvious every time the subject is brought up. you can argue that the uncanny valley stuff means that we should keep things stylized/abstracted, but there are people who are clearly devoted to the cause of getting a realistic looking android/cg character... so why not encourage the effort?
Stumbled over some movies of what looks to be an older version of her tonight... seems to be along the same lines of what was here. The body movment is pretty good. Of course the facial muscles are what would be insanely hard to reproduce. Alot of the major facial movements are there but it looks like someone botoxed the crap out of her. ;D
