i just got the demo for BF2 and for some reason when i run the setup exe, it tells me i have to have administrator priveldges and then exits. WTF? i'm not on a network. i'm the only user, so any idea what i need to do?
Make sure the account you log in with is a member of administrator group. An account can have restricted privileges in all NT Windows versions (2k and XP are the only desktop versions) to prevent some people from screwing up a PC. Some people restrict their rights on purpose and don't log on as admin so viri cannot hit their important files (a virus is usually executed with the privileges of the user, if the user cannot format c: the virus can't either)
Control Panel -> Users (exact name differs)
Look at what it says behind your login name. If it doesn't say "Administrator", select the account, click on properties, tab "Group Memberships", select "other" and choose "Administrators" from the drop down box.
EDIT: Come to think of it, that won't work since you're not admin. Look at which account is marked "Administrator" (called Administrator by default but can be renamed), log off and log in as that account.
Though it does surprise me that you don't know this, how do you install drivers or run other games?
I have a suspicion, are you running Windows 98 or ME?
It officially only supports XP but it "accidentally" runs on 2k, too. Apparently 98 won't work. Asking their tech support would just result in "Sorry, we only support Windows XP" so that means you're SOL.
Anyway, is your graphics card an Ati that's at least a Radeon 8500 or an NVidia that's at least a Gefore 5700? Geforce 4s won't run the game.
It only runs on XP, i tried with 2K and saw black screen and was dumped back to desktop. Also you really need the minimum videocard they list because my brother has ti4200 and it dumps him back to the desktop.
