Character Animator

TThe animator's main focus is the character's motion, staging and timing, for in-game as well as scripted sequences. All Character Animation Candidates must have a portfolio and reel that demonstrates:

* A strong artistic background, with numerous examples of life drawing and an intrinsic ability for storytelling
* Sculpture is a plus
* Layout and/or character design
* The portfolio should focus on the human form and its movement
* Strong understanding of classic animation principles and fundamentals (i.e.; Squash and Stretch, Staging, timing and Motion, anticipation, exaggeration, follow through, arcs and appeal, forward and inverse kinematics)
* Good sense of timing consistently
* Ability to communicate ideas effectively through thumbnail drawings or storyboards
* An ability to animate the human form, giving the character weight, personality, mood & believability

REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelors Degree in Classical or Character animation from a competitive program
* A 3-5 min. reel demonstrates a basic ability to create convincing performances and personalities as well as a strong understanding of animation fundamentals
* 2+ Years of experience animating characters for computer/video games

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Successfully completes a significant portion of moves for a character in a game with moderate supervision
* With moderate supervision, performs motion capture cutting or key framing of secondary characters, objects, or game areas
* With direction assists with character animation pre-production tasks (i.e.; shot list creation, motion tree creation, model sheet creation)

Character Artists

Demonstrates ability to:

* Work with art director and leads in a team environment
* Competently and efficiently complete complex tasks in a timely basis
* Experience on a minimum of 2 complete titles/productions that have shipped, (experience with either character driven titles or feature film are highly desirable)

A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:

* Drawing skills
* Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), volume and scale
* Good use of light and shadow
* Breadth of artistic styles
* Examples of High and Low Poly models
* Excellent craftsmanship/level of finish

REQUIREMENTS:

* Familiar with normal/bump mapping, overall next generation technology knowledge
* Proven ability to visualize and model human anatomy (including faces) and animal type characters with a high level of proficiency, including skinning/physiquing/weighting of models to skeletons
* Demonstrated ability creating models, environments/levels, basic textures and unwraps in a timely basis

UNDERSTANDING

Demonstrates a strong understanding of following core skills and ability to leverage these skills to benefit Art Direction/Game Design in real time environments:

* Light, texture, scale, budget and UVW unwrapping
* Layout/Composition/Pace
* Strong level of proficiency with at least one major 3D CG package ( 3D StudioMax Prefered )
* Various CG texturing methodologies work, including shaders, displacement maps, and lighting systems

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Creation of High/ And Or Low poly models to be used in game production
* Assists Art Directors by participating in pre-production of projects (i.e.; conducting research into techniques and source/reference materials)
* Creates models that are Memory efficient
* Add to a projects overall visual quality while remaining consistent with the Art Direction
* Model characters to an excellent level of finish, of a complex and inorganic nature, when required
* Should be able to comfortably work with advanced modeling techniques/higher order surfaces
* Authoring and/or applying intermediate to advanced level of complexity textures
* Embedding all necessary triggers, events, tags, etc into a model
* May be responsible for level/world build out where appropriate

Concept Artist

Candidates for concept artist will be judged primarily on artistic talent. If you have a super hot portfolio that includes character, scenic environment and architectural concepts, we’d like to take a look at it. Samples of quick rough sketches, along with final rendered samples are required.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills:

* Adept in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
* Fluent in drawing and paint mediums
* A working knowledge of how concept art relates to the final real-time game product
* Some experience with 3D Studio Max
* Ability to take direction from the Art Director
* Storyboard capabilities and general knowledge of 3-D techniques
* Experience on at least two AAA game titles

Quality, consistency and speed are traits necessary for a good concept designer in a fast-paced game production environment. Under supervision of the art director, the concept artist establishes the tone and the mood of the game, creating concepts incorporating both digital and traditional techniques.

Environmental Artist

Builds the geometry of organic and inorganic computer graphics environmental models relative to game while responsible for painting, creating, modifying, and placing textures that are consistent with the defined visual style. Utilizes computer graphic tools to create and apply texture assets, ensuring that they are fully optimized for target platforms minimizing any impact on artistic integrity and understanding the relationship of those textures to the lighting.

A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:

* Drawing skills
* Understanding of color theory
* Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
* Good use of line, light and shadow
* Breadth of artistic styles
* Excellent sense of scale
* Excellent level of finish

REQUIREMENTS:

* Demonstrates ability to work from reference materials with high level of accuracy (to ref. Material)
* Demonstrates ability to model moderate to complex and organic models
* Ability to work within a style including a style set by another artist/art director/ Brand Identity

FX Artist

Prerequisites:

* Candidates for Effects positions must demonstrate strong artistic skills related to Effects including design, composition, and silhouette
* Candidates must demonstrate strong animation skills including timing, weight, arcs, and overlapping action
* Candidates must have a solid understanding of all parts of a standard Effects pipeline: modeling, keyframe animation, procedural animation, particle systems, lighting, shaders, rendering, and compositing

Level Designer

Mad Doc Software seeks experienced Level Designers to work on an upcoming squad shooter title for next generation console and PC. Candidates for this position must have experience with 3D world building as well as the ability to generate highly detailed and immersive real world environments.
