Anduril:Sword of King Elessar (finished)

Forgot my flash card with the truck im working on,so modeled this so far during lunch,it will be the Sword of King Elessar(Aragorn) which i will use to normal map a low poly version for practice.



oh yeah if you happen to know where i can find good clear pictures of the writing on the sword id appreciate it.


ill likely finish this over the 4th weekend,as a model to work on while i take a break from other models

yeah figuring out this one was a small challenge, its not 100 % accurate,i did smooth outh more sharper areas on the hilt for normal mapping purposes

This site has the inscription and a translation. I modelled Anduril a while back and notice that yours is too round, the hilt is faceted. If you want it to be accurate I could get you a few good references. I'll PM you with a render of my sword and the ref I used.

when i do the final smooth im gonna try to sharpen some of the areas which need it,bah king seeing your model i think i made a mistake,the picture i have has some highlights which throw off the the look of the sword,might have to rebuild parts of it again.

Hehey when you think of it you might get the exact same result with ... 2 triangles Joke aside, nice and crisp work JO, can we see the cage wire?

before i sking it ill likey match up the proportions a little to the high poly version,the normal mapped is a tad bigger due to technique which needs to be used to make the normal map.


oh yeah there was a slight mismatch in the mesh where the blade meets hilt but i fixed it in a jiffy.

If you use a push modifier instead of actually making the model bigger I think it works better, makes it so all the details match up on both the models and such, if I know the method your using that is, if my comment is null then simply disregard it and pretend I didn't say anything. Looking good though, but if you want the facets like the authentic sword I would utilize the smoothing groups.

Cool stuff. The only thing I would work on is the blade material. It looks quite dull at the moment. Give it a nice mirror finish. It shouldn't be too hard to get a good one because of the normal map
