I'd be realllyyyy suprised to see someone get in under 18 even at 18 i'd be suprised to see someone ready for pro work . There are however lots of very talented young people out ther I mean look at Joe Mad's he was working at Marvel comics at age 16...
I don't know your situtation, but your best bet is to take the time to get a degree, all the while working on developing your artwork. Learn a range of styles and get comfortable with every good program you can as that will help. Keep at it and you'll have no problem landing a job when the time comes.
Realistically, 18. I've been contracting since I was 14 or 15, and started on Gore as character artist at 16. In the US, the minimum age for full-time work is 16, but for industry jobs, getting fulltime work under the age of 18 would be pretty surprising.
I'd suggest, if it seems within reach, go for it. Get an industry job. It's the best money you'll be able to make that young, trust me. From there, start saving money and decide whether or not to go to college. I'd recommend it to have other skills that will be able to get you anywhere you want in the future. I really can't stress how important that is.
Also, I'd strongly advise against offering your age to anyone. Tell if asked, but don't put it out there unless you need to. I wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as I have if I'd been open about it. Sad, and unfair, but true.
Yes, but in your case Jon it wasn't as much talent as it was your willingness to do ANYTHING to get into the industry (and by "anything" I mean blow jobs )
The original Gore character modeler took a nice pride hit when I brought in this kid that had more professional experience and talent. Then I was smart enough to replace myself with Dark Horizon.
Btw, this is all credited to networking. I taunted jon with the job for years.
hehe yeah jon tells the truth, do NOT give your age out to anyone, on one hand it may seem impressive, but people aren't likely to hire "a kid" hehe. it doesn't matter though if you present yourself right and have the right kind of skills.
i started freelancing when i was 16 or so, got my first fulltime job at 18. I would say 18 is the minimum age. Many companies actually put "must be 18 years or older" in their job descriptions.
yeah go to college, youll need the experience of drinking too much, messing around with women too much and almost failing out of school to prepare for the real world

That's the exception rather than the norm, though. I don't think most people get in until at least 18-21.
You could probably get an internship at 16 if you were really good.
Oh well, not that I think i'm talented and mature enough for an industry yet, but I just can't wait .
