Hi guys, Just wanted to pimp my rhino warrior Im doing for the cgchat monthly challenge. I am open to crits but nothing too drastic 25% self illum and 2 light set up fyi
Nothing too drastic you say... well i dont like rhinos you should make him into a bunny man. Thats not drastic is it?
Nice work, but needs more details on the skin. it looks like he has no ass or spine. Think body builder but with rhino skin for the rest of the details.
oh and play with your spec map cloth isn't shinny. and rhinos cover them selves on mud so add some dry mud in and make it not shinny.
came a long way with the rino man.. i agree about the back.. it looks like you put the definition in the arms and chest but not anywhere else....some rinos have an armored like skin and i think this would be cool for a warrior.. like here.. http://www.ifi.unicamp.br/~ghtc/rhino1-p.htm
making plates like that all over the body would be cool and fill up lots of blank space..
Looks really good. Did you or someone else do something like this before? It looks very familiar, and I think I saw it on some old cgchat comp, or at least something similar.
I dig there character. He has a lot of weight to him. Feels nice and beefy. Great work so far.
Your treatment of the leather straps is a bit too lumpy. The highlight having such a gradient through the middle makes it look like its stuffed or something to that effect. Try tightening up where you are placing the highlights? Make them a bit more suddle.
How about some more wrinkles? There's a marvelous amount of detail in rhino skin--lots of fun can be had with it! 1 px brush gogogogogo! )
My crit would be to accentuate some more muscles in the back and the butt. He just seems a little too rubbery back there. Seems you've emphasized a lot of muscle in the chest on not so much on the back. Perhaps there's a little too much brown colour in general. It'd be nice to see some contrasting colours somewhere on the model on the feathers perhaps? Also a weapon of some sort like a mauling hammer wouldn't hurt either.
I really dig the boots and the hair in the back of the head.
more progress, ignore the tusks, im still working on them, and I made new gauntlets for him, I like these better. 50% self illum on the armor. I still need to apply the spec and bump for the armor.

Justin_Meisse: Nah, ghost_rider made a version of this model for an older CGChat contest (can't remember if he finished it or not?) ... it wasn't at all bad back then, but this one is a vast improvement.
Looking good so far! I love the expression.
Yeah! Bump and spec made and applied. Just gonna do some fine tuning now, and get the rig set up. Then It's time to make the beauty renders!! "Show me love!" *snap!*
great stuff ghost rider! i've been following this thread and it's been great to see the progress you've made on this vividly drawn character. keep it up!

Unfortunetly both my ideas have been recreated by others for this comp. But im sticking with my original idea now.
Drop some armor on that beast and hes gonna be rocking.
also, i wasnt really feeling the guantlets you had on him on your concept sketches, if you were still going to use them that is.

Could it be my Cave Grunt? you're thinking about?
The rhino is really kicking my grunt's ass though, keep up the good work.

Might be a little soft definition wise, but nothing a little more contrast can't fix.
Oh yeah and good job on the straps on the backpack, I like the button snaps on the back.
Perhaps he needs a bit of dirt and dust from his hunting ground on his legs and leggings.
nice work
