There are many things in the world that make absolutely zero sense. Especially human behaviour.

I mean, take spammers. They do everything to circumvent your spam protection and gather your email address no matter how much you encrypt it, yet in the end, what do they expect to gain from it? Is someone who takes so many precautions against spam really going to buy a product just because someone managed to get an admail through their fortress walls? Wouldn't it be more likely that such a person would refuse to buy the product, even if he was legitimately interested in buying it before?
Gathering addresses, verifying them, what FOR? Ultimately, isn't half of all spam by now just address confirmation crap? Wouldn't it make more sense to, you know, spend that computer time on actually sending out the ads? The only people who buy these addresses are other spammers who hope to make the big money with them. And what about tracking the user? What does it benefit them to know what I eat, drink, buy? I don't see ads becoming more targeted with more information. Same goes for spam. Why would I want a student loan from some shady source when I can get one for free (i.e. zero interest, sometimes even no payback required) from the gov? Of what use is a car insurance, credit card or phone service to me when it's only available to US Americans, anyway? Why don't they try to advertise products the user might actually want instead of some "herbal viagra" crap I don't need because I'm still thirty years away from needing that? Oh and why do I receive every spam mail roughly ten times a week? If I cared one time would be enough, since I don't care I'm not more likely to consider it if you keep nagging me.

Or EULAs. What's the point of those? Why do they exist? Doesn't copyright law already enforce the same rules and render the rest invalid anyway? Are they there to spread some FUD to scare people enough that they won't exercise their rights because they think a click-through license can take away inalienable rights? Don't console games manage to exist without EULAs while still being offered the same legal protection? Would people actually believe me if I claimed in an EULA that their firstborn child shall be mine?

It just makes NO SENSE.

1 000 000 million emails 2 - 3 % reply thats enough. I don't think they take the time to find out if you are US inhabitant or not. They are not trying to sell products that make sense or anything they are just looking for the 2 - 3 % that awnser and thats how they survive. If that wouldn't work there would be no spam.

Also you have people that "block" spam because thats the thing to do. Just because you block spam because you really know that you don't want bullshit etc. doesn't mean that 40 year old mr. X only builds up a "fortress" because his son told him to, read about it or his work m8 told him to.

Thats no "real" buisness, thats aiming for dumbasses wink.gif

I think it was 2-3 out of a million. And still, stuff like misleading headlines doesn't even make sense with idiots.

Some spam, almost looks like the headlines are generated by a computer program or someone who does not understand English very well. Ditto for some of the stupid email viruses.

It's all kind of amusing in a pain-in-my-ass kind of way.

Well these are the same people who when some random stranger calls up and says " Hi Ms Smith you have been chosen as our lottery winner and we have your prize waiting here we just need to confirm your credit card account number " the bimbo discloses her information . Everyone wants something for nothing and often discard common sense in order to get it . It's lucky us Polycounters are cholked full of an uncommon amount of common sense ... cheers !

which leads to another question, why do people deem money more important than the lives of their fellow human beings, so much so that they will kill to get it, ruin lives for it, do anything for it? i am like autistic when it comes to money though so maybe i just dont get it

I tend to think its jsut people who are sick of being poor, and have been exposed to some sort of luxury in their lives, and grow a inconsiderable amount of greed and want to have it back, when they commonly see people who are remotly rich.

This is true for me, im insanely jealous of how much money my friend has, and i would do almsot anything to have her house and her money.

But i have too much common sense to throw it all away by doing anything about it. Ill work for my money thank you smile.gif

Sounds like the manifestation of the american dream, people who believe they have the chance to get rich and the lazyness not to work for it so they'll try to take the easy wa out. Others have seen that making money off those hopeful idiots is an easy way to get rich.

As for the billion dollar industry, I doubt the people who make the products that are advertised form even half a billion dollars together, more likely the trading of addresses among spammers and hackers (spamming might be legal under certain circumstances, using bot nets will net you a lifetime in jail) drives up the value.

The same arguement can be said about all advertising , its all spam in a way .... but there are occasional times when it works. today i was thinking of having a pizza for dinner , and on the way past on the bus i noticed a pizza hut with a delivery number plastered over it.... at some point i will take that number and use it... Somtimes its just product placement , (like when you buy a tube of toothpaist) if you see 2 tubes and 1 is a brand you have never heard of , you tend to trust the other more , even though it mught actually be inferior....

hey , if those herbal viagra ppl spam for long enough for us to actually need it , that might work too smile.gif

With emails , at least you dont have to open them ... unless you use a preview paine or somthing.

You are obsessed with EULA's KDR. I dunno how really they would impact anyones lives in any way shape or form. Like MoP, I just never read them. What difference does it make really honestly?
As for Spam, now yeah, that's genuinely infuriating. Nothing like being told I need a bigger cock or I cant get it up EVERY single day.

hahaha yeah Daz reminds me of GTA San Andreas quote (yes I am obsessed with this game)

"Damn, look at him, I would do him right now ... if he weren't balled"
Many men don't know that this happens to a balled man at least 2 times a day ....

Or something in that direction wink.gif

Prs-Phil: I think most men are "balled" ... the word you're looking for is "bald" wink.gif

I was already wondering, figured he meant "deballed"...

oxy: My logic by now is "search until you find your stuff then look at ground level for the cheap stuff".

Daz: I'd say not being able to buy some of the more expensive apps used on eBay or something is already a major inconvenience. Never mind having to put up with crap like Steam.

You have to understand. Everything makes sense and has a reason because the person that did it must have thought it was the right thing to do in the first place. No one ever goes "This is the thing that appears like the right thing to do, so I am going do the wrong thing because it doesn't make any sense"
The reason why things that other people do don't make sense is because they have a different perspective and what might be wrong to you, is right to them.
If spamming didnt make any sense to anyone, then it would never happen, but spammers make big bucks doing it, so it must be completely sensible.

Follow any of that? Because I just confused the fuck out of myself.

I have countless times seen self-smart people get slaughtered by EULA's when it comes to MMO's...

Especially with PlanetSide; "Ohnoes, our guild leaders were banned by a mod, not because they spammed, but because he was power-hungry" - yet 3 logs appeared on that very same forum showing just how much they spammed - and it was a LOT!

And even then they whined about how they had the "rights to have him removed because of what he did" - yet every time they mentioned that, someone pulled up the EULA and showed them that they had NOTHING!

    Priceless... laugh.gif

Now onto the mail-spam - Actually, one out of a thousand people actually READ spam.
And let's not forget the virus-spam either.
Both serve their masters well, because the mail-spamming is essentially a no-cost, wide-gain possibility - and money-happy people LOVE free possibilities.
