Sorry, i am actually unsure of where to post this.

I bought HL2 when it first came out and im a person whos fairly decent in the field of Maya5/6 (not the best but im trying). Im trying to become an animator for video games, and ive been getting ok practice with Doom3 zombies for a bit.

However, when i used the SMD importer that comes with the SourceSDK from Valves Steam service, it doesn't work properly. Sure enough it imports the models, however it takes well over an hour to build the character of "Alyx" on my Athlon 2600, Radeon 9200 and 512 Dual-Channel RAM. Thats fine, i can wait, nothing im not used to, but when the importer takes that long, and the results doesn't work properly, its really annoying. See what happens is the skin weighting is completly jarbled. I dont have a problem redoing skin weights, but i would prefer to skip the middleman here since its already supposed to be done.

This is a simple translation of the main pelvis bone of -20 aling the x axis (which also happens to be the skeleton control point as well, figure that one out).

Im just wondering if anybody has any idea, or a link to an article that tells me how to fix it, or something that will patch it up. This is horrible.
