I'll be impressed when you can lift a humvee over your head after it's benn hit by a rpg and take out the bad guys without breaking a sweat...I have high expectations.
Just imagine if you were lifting something heavy with those things, and then all of a sudden they broke or the batteries went dead. There's a reason humans are incapable of lifting a large truck or bolder above their heads. If you want to lift a heavy object, get a forklift or crane... crazy Japanese.
Helping people with disabilities would be a practical application, though.

It could lock up in position when something malfunctions or the batteries die unexpectedly, so that if you are holding something, you would just freeze in that position until you could get help (maybe a radio signal to someone or something?).
Sonic: When you're locked in place you can no longer balance yourself. I.e. you'd fall over. There's a reason it's so hard to get those action figures to stand.
