They can be slightly above. I was looking around neweggs refurbished section. I dont know what to look for. Some kind of surround emulation would be nice. I guess more than anything the quality of sound/build. No mic is neccessary since I will frakenstein the one I have now unto it. Only real stipulation is the pads can't be made of leather.

and if you're feeling snazzy, i believe they come with different color panels for the earpieces.

I got these, they are real 5.1 headphones (no emulation). The surround sound is quite good (although not perfect) and the general sound quality is good enough for normal music and gaming (don't expect high quality headphones for music listening though).
Comfort is exellent, you can wear these 24/7 without probems.
Just be careful with the soundcard you are using.. those crappy onboard soundcards (at least the one I used; AC97 something) had a lot of 'static-noise' with these Headphones (wasn't noticable with normal speakers). But it works perfectly with my Creative Audigy2 ZS.
Last year, one of the guys here bought these headphones for everyone at work. Nice. I like 'em.
Cool cans btw hawken.

But they dont have any volume control on the cord which i think sucks...But thats what volume control in winamp/windows is for i suppose.
Sennheisers are the best.

Not the wireless, at least the one I got before getting the Zalman sucks big time.
I found one of the Brookends? I forget that high end electronics/comfort store. They had a smoking deal on a Sennheisers pcx-250. It was the last display model. He would have sold it for $100 (even newegg sells it for $150). Damn, sound quality was awesome. Plus its sound cancelling really made a difference. When I turned it on, the mall noise dissappeared. Perfect for a loud work enviroment. (If anyone is interested its the one in Northgate Mall in Seattle).
I couldnt afford that, even at the price. However Radio Shack of all places had display models AND a decent receiver of all there models.
I ended up with this model

For half price sale (20 vs 40), the sound quality is excellent! In fact it sounded clearer than the higher end model. Its actually quite amazing! Anyone looking for a replacement headphone setup for a ipod or something, you might try these out. The only thing is they have a pretty short wire (something I overlooked). So I ended up monstering my old headphones wire and mic with some soldering and shoo goo. So now I have a headmic on these as well. (shh-dont tell radio shack).
Edit: I also have to add these are made in the US (with foreign parts) believe or not.
