I'm actually a bit disappointed. Not that I think the game would be bad or anything, but I guess I'm getting worn out of FPS games that have me shooting demons with sci-fi styled weaponry. I look at these screenies and don't see much beyond Doom3 and Painkiller. I feel the same sort of 'blah' about the Gears of War stuff that's been displayed lately: it looks great, but space grunts and/or aliens trying to kill each other just isn't holding my attention anymore either. Those two oft-repeated themes along with "realism" shooters and WWII games have pretty much sapped my enthusiasm for the FPS genre as a whole. That sucks, because they're my favorite kinds of games to play, but I juat can't talk myself into being excited about blasting through yet another horde of demonic enemies.
I just realized it's been almost five years since the last Diablo game. I understand Roper and that team wanting to leave Blizzard, but I wish we'd gotten one fully 3D installment in the Diablo series before they left.
It does look cool. I like the idea of a hellgate in my home town. But Im with Verm. It's hard to get excited about in a sea of similarly themed FPS's. I just realized I turned a job down from these guys about 6 months ago to work on this. Although not for any reason other than logistical ( visa crap ).
Verm: you do know you're gonna get one right?
I've worked on this game. Very small asset mind you, but I'm sure as hell adding it to my resume. Not sure if I'm doing more, but what I did so far was cool. Too bad it's not in any of the screenshots 8-(
I played a build at E3 for a bit and talked to one of the developers. What they've shown so far is really really early and it seems like they're still feeling out a lot of the direction. I was impressed with the amount of weapon customizations and the fact that certain creatures could only be killed by certain weapons, so there's a good bit of strat involved.
I think if they can tweak the multiplayer to have a useful class system (for instance, maybe one of you is really good for dispatching zombies while another is better at taking out flying demons) and somehow use that for a more teamworked aspect, (balanced against single player concerns of course) they could end up with something really cool.
From my talk with the guy (I think his name was Jason) it sounded like the Tech was nearing completion and they were just ramping up on content and a more final design.
As it is it seems like Gauntlet or Diablo in that its just a fun way to kill some time. Which really is fine by me.
yeah I played the build they had at e3, it was early but it looked neat and sounded like they were moving away from a straight up shooter and more into a 3rd person action game, which makes sense since you can use melee and ranged weapons at the same time... dual weilding crazy pistols and swords.. hehe looked cool, looking forward to it
i hope you can play in 3rd person, first person melee always feels wrong, you're just stood there whacking away, 3rd person opens it up to adding style to your character

Blizzard is currently working on Diablo 3? I had no idea, certainly hadn't read anything about it. Wow, very cool!
The whole thing just interests me because its
not the same old fps formula.
