Shopping is fun. We like to go out for a walk (the parks around Edinburgh are great. Holyrood leads onto the volcanic mountains and prehistoric forts), have a pint or two and a spot of lunch, then go shopping. Another few pints afterwards can't be sniffed at either.

The best CD and DVD shopping is when you go in and just pick up everything you want. We got a dozen DVDS and 1/2 dozen CDs today. And a dozen or so books.

Anyway, while I was paying, we were talking about the great music playing in the shop, so we asked, the CD was brought forth and purchased.

Joanna Newsom, the album "The Milk-Eyed Wonder" Is a fucking masterpiece. It's blues and country tinged folk, really stripped back and stunning. Those of you who are into Cash/Cave/Harper/Waits will not be dissapointed.

Well, I love Cash and Waits, so I'll be sure to check it out. Recently, I've actually been listening to Waits' new album a lot (Real Gone). A lot of people don't seem to like it much, but I absolutely love it... one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. My uncle is about the only person I've introduced to the album that actually seemed to like it. I played it for him on the way back from seeing The Reverend Horton Heat (AWESOME show, btw), and he kept asking me to play "Metropolitan Glide" over and over laugh.gif.

I managed to download the video for The Sprout and the Bean, it's amazing, cheers Rick. I'll be on the lookout to hear some more of her stuff... from what I've read online she's played with Devendra Banhart and she reminds me a bit of Cat Power. Sounds good smile.gif

Joanna Newsom, thanks I'll give it a shot wink.gif

Sample some Mary Gauthier if you haven't before, especially the "Filth and Fire" album. "Sugarcane" and "After You're Gone" are permanently etched into my brain smile.gif
