This stuff is pretty old now, but I'm getting some images together for my portfolio so I thought someone might enjoy taking a look. This is the environment I built for defjam vendetta ps2. I think it still looks nifty even with the extreme limitations we had to work with on that game. Environment model, textures, lighting, and fx all by me.
Yeah it's a shame you couldn't have found just a couple more polys for each arch, but perhaps you dont really see them much in game? This is beautiful work malcolm. Very nice.
Daz, yes I agree the low polyness is evident but we had really lame restrictions on this game, I think two of your character's in Bond is probably close to my budget for the environment. Cholden, 5359 triangles, textures: four 32x32, three 64x64, three 128x64, two 256x64, two 128x128, one 256x128, three 256x256. And yes you read correctly for some reason I was allowed to use a 256x64? I didn't really feel comfortable with this resolution but it was suggested by one of the senior artists, I'm kind of surprised it even went through the pipe. There were also animation frames for the fire texture and candle texture which added to the overall texture budget. The lighting was done with 100% vertex colours and unfortunately painted by hand mostly.
I know exactly how ya feel, Malcolm. We have 11 on-screen chars @ 5000 tris each, sucking up a hefty 55,000 polys. For the enviornments, I'm lucky to get 5-8,000 polys.
For a little over 5k polys, that Def Jam enviornment looks damn good though. Top notch work
Definitely cool, considering your limitations. I feel your pain, working on environments for gamecube.
Would have been nice to see some more colors. Something that opposes the general tone of the environment and make it pop. Some color contrast is always good.

And chance you can tell us the specs for this scene? polycount, texture sheet sizes?
