Making real good quality metal penal like textures?
I have currently UV mapped a set of starfighters and I am baffled on how to make good textures because most of the time, the metal turns out to be crap.
anyways, try to hunt down some good metaltexture and then use them as overlays. Throw some noise on the color layer, duplicate layers and play with the layer settings. Add in rust , grime and durt layers to mix things up and uhm.. most important i guess, take a look at for example jetplanes and stuff that resembles star fighter to see how the material acts and looks. Basically you are trying to imitate a material as close as possible so having a god understanding on how it looks and act when it interacts with light is crucial.
