one month afterowning my VW Corrado what happens..
was taking the car to be filled up with petrol this mornin, came up to the traffic lights which were out of comission, slowed down to 25-30 (on a 40 limit) scanned all the exits, clear.
trundled along slowly car nips out infront of me, followed by a bike both clocked each other hit the brakes, wet road, slide tried to swerve to the right.
crunch.
the bike is more than likely ****, guy has broken his leg but is pretty much ok, cant really blame anyone for it just some damn bad luck.
rado is gonna need a whole new front bumper, passenger wing and indicator.
pretty luckky i didnt hit the guy head on or I might have killed him.

The exact same applies to car drivers I'm afraid. Falling off a motorcycle fucking hurts. It's liable to cause serious injury or death. Even at low speeds. Your case is a perfect example. He gets a broken leg, you get a dent in your VW ( aw bless )
This is something most bikers are acutely aware of. That makes them generally an awful lot more aware of their immediate surroundings than most car drivers. Car drivers who might be talking to passengers, listening to the radio, drinking coffee, yapping on a cellphone etc. Bikers don't have such distractions.
I've ridden sports bikes since I was 16, and every single accident I had wasn't my fault. It was some silly cunt in a Volvo not paying attention.
So, how many times did you hit him yet?
The amount he looks around in the car is unbeliveable and he freely admits that in order to pass my driving test I donot need to look around as much as he does, though oviously he encourages it..he turns his head the whole way round,he vary rarily trusts his mirrors only without turning and looking for himself first.
he exsplained this is the bikers interition,as your so open on a bike you simply donot trust mirrors or other road users,if there no hazard you stay aware becuase all you need is some prick to open his door, pull out infront of you or cut across you to have you off
your bike.
Also sounds like you americans need the same law as us in the UK now has the new law here is that you cannot use your cellphone/mobile phone while driving and the police do stop you and fine you on the spot....they have also been known to stop you for eating, drinking or doing anything else bar driving at the wheel.
When i phone my mates they are normally driving round its like "hey dude, sorry im driving ill call ya back in a bit"...then they will ring back few mins later when tehy have paked up somewhere.
The big thing here at the moment are these hands free sets, its like an ear piece with a microphone taht comes round infront of the mouth...proper secret agent style, many motorists/long haul drivers are using these now.
John
But the people who fly past my house (which is a 30mph limit) and 60-90mph generally arent the safest of riders..
and i might be taking this the wrong way but you appear to be telling me its my fault on the basis that i have a car and not a bike.
If the bike just ran out infront of me (which he nearly did but decided to break and slide instead) would you be so quick to defend the bike?
dont want to start a big flame war but i think we both made some sweeping generalisations there..

It makes me chuckle when people bring up the word 'flamewar' before there is one. It's almost like they're looking for it.
I don't think I made any generalizations that weren't based on experience and fact and I certainly didn't imply that the accident was your fault. I simply found it remarkably selfish of you that you were concerned about damage to an object, and someone else in the same accident got hurt.
Of course, idiot drivers are not confined to a particular type of vehicle.
I think hands free or not, cell phones in a car are just a bad idea. It's not the physical manipulation - I drive almost exclusively one handed - it's having your mind being on something other than driving that causes the accidents.

when i leave my cell at home, i tend to think about it more than if i had it with me. : /
Think about it.
