It's being developed by Human head and is using the DOOM 3 engine.
Also june issue of PCGAMER has a preview for it suppostly and a preview for DNF (which is obviously a blatant lie because DNF doesn't exist.)
I read the pcgamer article, and it really is a disappointment. It looks more like doom3 than quake4, which is pretty bad.
Why can't someone use that engine for more than the grey alien sci fi style, I really wouldn't be able to tell if they just used the doom3 textures for the prey screens. It just looked like new monsters in the same old levels (altho, the prey monsters look awesome)
+++ Duke Nukem Forever gone Gold! +++ Weapons of Mass Destruction found in Iraq! +++ Osama Bin Laden surrenders! +++ Devil reporting subzero temperatures! +++
I remember anxiously waiting for this game. I was soo excited for this title.
I still occasionally look at the Prey screenies on the Duke3D CD!
This thread prompted me to read some articles on the history of this game, and its development. After reading Tom Halls original idea for this game, I can only say THANK GOD it got cancelled then. It really sounded stupid.
Hopefully Human Head has buffed it up quite a bit.
Hey look, it's the Doom3 maps with different monsters in. Goddamn it, did id write a clause into the Doom3 engine license saying that any game made with the Doom3 engine must look identical to Doom3? Or is that just the licensees' lack of originality?
The last screenshot looks pretty original to me, but I'd have to agree some of those monsters resemble Doom3 to a large extent - the characters really dominate those screenshots so it's hard to say what the environments are like.
There was a brief note on one of the previews for Prey mentioning the immenant release of Duke Nukem Forever. Thats a bit of a step forward from "when its done", so we might actually see it in the next half decade or so.
I'll be interested to see whether 3D Realms pop up at E3.
Just cause it sounded so silly, I'm pasting it here:
Scott Miller, CEO of 3D Realms, added, "Prey is special for many reasons, including several new and original gameplay features and a tightly integrated story that packs an emotional punch, unlike other first person shooters."
translation: "we're replacing some of doom3's models."

Hard to imagine these were once the top of the line. Man, those were the days.
