since I am almost completely fubar'd from allergies, after I mow in the morning I am socking it in and just gonna drink beer and watch the NFL draft tomorrow.
was just curious if anyone else here makes it an event like I do.
any fantasy football players or just NFL nuts?
no responses means no I guess

I will be paying attention Sunday to see if everyone avoids Maurice Clarett
In years past, I've been very interested either because there were a lot of Buckeyes likely to go in the first couple rounds or because teams I'm interested in have a substantial pick on the line. Cleveland has the third pick this year, but the prospects at their biggest need position don't thrill me and I haven't seen any proof that the new regime can run the team any better than the old group. The Bengals pick 17th, I think, and are looking to draft at some pretty uninteresting positions (big bodies on the D line). Couple that with last year's inexplicable Chris Perry selection (I hate seeing a Wolverine drafted anyway), I'm not too optimistic about what Cincinnati will do this year either.

Thankyou Verm, fellow nerd
I am much intrigued this year because of the Matt Jones factor. Since I am from there and I am a rabid Razorback fan I have watched him play for 4 years I know what the scouts are screaming about are what he can do. It is not just a combine workout thing. So now I am interested in watching. So now waiting 15 minutes between every pick becomes something I can do I don't think Cleveland will draft hime because they took Kellen Winslow 2 last year and I have no idea what Cincinnati will do. (Do you remeber Joe Walter, their offensive Lineman, I went to high school with him, I know him, he wears a size 15 shoe!) But, it does make the draft more intersting when you have someone to root for, doesn't it?
The downside is that I haven't had a top draft pick to root for in ages - I can't stand Kellen Winslow Jr and I'll be cold and dead before I cheer a Wolverine, so both the Browns and Bengals were a wipeout last year. This year... man, I don't know what Cleveland will do; I don't care for either of the quarterbacks, the Browns don't need another running back, and I might cry if they take Braylon Edwards! I hear rumors that the Bengals might go with Erasmus James from Wisconsin, but I just can't get worked up about a mid-round defensive end.
I should remember this, but what's your NFL team (or teams)? Dallas seems like the easy answer, but I seem to remember you rooting for someone else. And I do vaguely remember Joe Walter, but not the actual draft (I was only 9 at the time, of course!)
Oh well. I watch Nascar in the football off-season anyway.

My bruthah! Oh I see your cake, Happy Birthday Hollowmind!
Verm, I am a semi-fanatical Cowboy fan and a extremely-fanatical Razorback fan.
Oh yeah another reason to be disappointed in Kelen Winslow, was getting hurt and missing rookie season, but if he's half the player his daddy was he should be worth it. On the other hand Carson Palmer did start showing some signs of life. He might actually develope into something
I am still sick in my stomach from them blowing that 20-7 fourth quarter lead against the Bengals that cost them a playoff spot last year.
get your tissues out Verm, your Browns just drafted a Wolverine

I was kinda hoping the Cowboys were taking shawne merriman, but extremely happy with both of their picks so far! Next year should be interesting going to the 3-4.
Ha I'm glad somebody picked that poor guy finally. After he is invited there and ends up sitting and sitting and he is a quality pick!
Matt Jones drafted right before him by Jacksonville. So I'm happy there. It has been intersting so far
Actually I was pretty surprised at some of the picks. I can understand Miami passing on Rogers, because they desperately needed a tailback, but Cleveland? I really thought they, if anyone, would have stepped up and taken him, as they have nobody on that team at that position. Trent Dilfer? C'mon, I love the guy as much as anyone, hell he helped win a SuperBowl for us(ravens), but at this point in his career he's not exactly franchise material, if he ever was in the first place. They are in a division with three franchise QB's all in their 2nd and 3rd years, this was the perfect time to take Rogers and build a team around him.
The most BAFFLING pick of all, has GOT to be Detroit taking Mike Williams. First, it really pissed me off because that is who I wanted Baltimore to get, and second, they already have Charles Rogers and Roy Williams, how the hell are they going to pay him? I smell trade bait. If not, Matt Millen is an idiot. They needed defensive help more than anything. The offensive pieces are there, just needed time to jell. That said, if Harrington can't improve with those 3 receivers, he's done for.
I'm also a little surprised, and much to my delight that Jax skipped over Clayton and took that "freak", LOL. The guy is a physical marvel, but what position will he play? I'm not sure he can play TE, which is what they hope he can.
David Pollack =
Irritant, I think no one in Cleveland is expecting Dilfer to be anything more than a caretaker QB during the latest transition/rebuilding. If the Browns didn't like Rodgers (which I can understand), it wouldn't make sense to blow a first-round pick on him. It's not like the team is that close to turning it around, so likely they're hoping to get a good QB next offseason or in the '06 draft (Matt Leinart will be available, of course).

He started his freshman season at wr for the same reason he's trying it in the pro's, to get on the field quicker. Halfway through his first season he was at QB and played the next 3 seasons as starting qb.
QB'd in the two longest games in NCAA history (7 overtimes each) and one both of them (the first against eli manning
Holds the QB single season rushing record for the SEC.
At his size his speed is incredibly deceptive. He's so tall it looks like he is just lumbering along. 5'9" conerbacks not only had to try and catch him they had to try and bring him down.
From what I've heard he doesn't want to play TE because they would want him to add weight. Jackson is wanting him to play slot. If he wants it bad enough, and I think he does, he will be a very successfull player in the NFL
I see your 'Boys actually got the first DE in the draft. Happy with Ware? Maybe Aaron Rodgers would have been a good pick there, a team can never have too many quarterbacks

Parcells seems to think a team doesn't need any quarterbacks
They drafter two DE in the first round and just drafted a tall linebacker Burnett from Tenn in the 2nd. They've been saying it was going to be a defensive draft for the cowboys since Parcells is changing over to the 3-4 D. So if they are gonna draft all D, then draft well please

My guess, we'll go for a franchise QB in next year's draft.

Sounds reasonable to me, but lets hope they follow one important rule when doing so...
No more dadgum baseball player/quarterbacks!
I am extremely happy the Ravens were able to secure Mark Clayton. With a healthy Todd Heap, Derrick Mason, Clayton, and 6'6" Clarence Moore, Jamal Lewis, and Boller hopefully continuing to improve, they could really turn this offense around. Those are some pretty formidable players.

i understand about clevland not getting a new qb in the first round, the last thing they want is another tim couch, and they made it pretty well known that they were going to take braylon edwards in the first, unless a team like minnesota moved up in front of them, since IMO braylon edwards is the best WR in the draft. i think charlie frye will end up to be pretty good qb, he is primed to follow in the footsteps of Marshall's Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich and Ben Roethlisberger. I am a little happy that baltimore got a hold of clayton, i'd like to see boller get a lot better since baltimore is my favorite AFC team, if jamal lewis can stay out of jail this upcomming season then they have that playoff spot reserved and hopefully a conference title since i hate pittsburgh
Boller had a pretty bum rap thrown against him as a rookie starter, and early in 2004, but in the second half he was pretty strong, getting AFC player of the week twice, and having an 85 rating. And he did that with Jamal being hurt/suspended, and Todd Heap being out, and really nobody except Kevin "Everybody cuts me" Johnson to throw to. Oh, he had Clarence Moore, who has some promise, but lets face it, was a very raw rookie who cost the team as much as he helped it with his bad/broken off routes.
Let's put it this way - Boller has no real excuse not to at least put up very EFFICIENT numbers with the talent around him now. I don't know if he'll throw for alot of yards, with Jamal still being the main focus, but he should be able to capitilize on teams who dare to stack the line. If he can't he might find himself on the hot-seat next season. That said, I think he'll do well, and the Ravens will take the AFC North. It'll be a dogfight with Pittsburgh, and Cincinnatti will be in the mix as well. Might be one of the toughest divisions in the NFL this year.
