Softmodding a PS2-70k?

Since SCEE is pissing me off quite badly (no Katamari, no Xenosaga, no God of War...) right now I'd like to mod that PS2-70k (slim) so it plays import games. Is there a way to do that without adding chips or stuff? The GC has that Freeloader, what are my options with the PS2? I only want to break the region protection, the copy protection can stay in for all I care.

Although I've mostly modded Xboxs for my business, I have done a couple PS2s. I'm not all that qualified to be honest with PS2 mods compared to Xbox, but here's what I know. If you have the slim PS2, you will need a chip or possible a swap disk. The only real softmod that I ever used for PS2 was attaching a hard drive, and swapping with a PS1 game to boot HDDAdvance, which is impossible since the slim PS2 can't support a hard drive. www.ps2-scene.org is a pretty good place to check. Look around for a swap disk, or you may have to just solder a chip.

I was never sure of this (I'd like to clarify this someday) but wasent there photos of a External HDD for the PS2 and did it ever exist as production?

there is an HDD solution coming for the slim PS2.
here's some info on a case that will allow you to load imports etc.. on the slim PS2 along with the swap magic 3.3 disks.

yuck! well, hopefully you should be able to find a spot to ship to you. It looks like the best choice and once I snag a slim thats what I'm goin with. good luck.
