Dont know if you saw these on Conceptart.org but I FINALLY have some stuff to show ya. These are a few of the concepts I did for Epic's Unreal Championship II. Its hard to believe that some of these are over a year old now. Time flies when you are having fun.
Hope you dig em. Game ships at the end of this month.
Ya War I did do the character/ vehicle/ weapon concepts that have been floating around for the next tournament. Feng and John Wallin did the environmental stuff. I forget what magazine they are in.
Scooby I would love to show more stuff but it took me 2 weeks to get these drawings cleared. I am not much for jumping through hoops....so I am not sure if I will get around to posting more. Stayed tuned for the next title!
Awesome stuff hawkprey! I've been looking forward to seeing more of your work since your Unreal XMP concept you posted over at conceptart.org a while back.
I really get a sense that each of these characters come from different cultural/technological backgrounds, yet still exist in the same universe.
it's been a privilege to watch your work progress. The character concepts for UT2k6 that War mentioned are in CGW magazine... even though they're presented small they're unmistakably hawkprey
i think the biggest thing that comes through in these pieces (other than a welcome stylistic consistency, which Unreal has been needing) is how solid the characters look. with a fast paced game of this kind of nature, designs like these with strong silhouettes and iconic proportions are really nice. solid. that's the word that comes to mind, even for the ladies--they can have feminine curves, but all of them look like they belong out handing out beatdowns.
only nitpick that comes to mind is how the back of Gorge's leg looks like one unbroken line..maybe a little too solid but hey, if the animators can hack it, no big deal!
i really enjoy your conservative use of tones and colors. it's rooted in industrial design style marker renderings, but you've managed to make it your own. bravo!
Very nice stuff , I see a lot of stuff from concept artists but your work stands out to me as you have this Syd Mead esque meets manga style and it just looks rad. I also seen the Flaq cannon design from ut2006 is that your design ?? If so I gotta say I love the line work on that !
I am really glad you appreciate this stuff. Its always tough for me to post older work because to me well......its old. Guess its the artist in me.
Hey if you are going to E3 there is going to be an artbook handed out at one of the Epic booths that has some more current work in it. Along with some paintings by John Wallin and some of the incredible hi-poly models the guys have been doing here. Its freakin amazing.
The Flak Cannon was done by my predecessor Anthony Pereira. He actually did most of the weapons and main characters before I came onto the project. His pencil work is the best I have ever seen. I am sure he will be posting some of his stuff up soon. Maybe at UnrealOps or something.
shame that some of the characters were majorly changed in the game from your concepts. Your half naked robo cat lady is more awesome then the three quarters naked brunette chick in the screenshots.
The chick that is in all the promo stuff is Selket. She is one of the main characters for the game along with Anubis. Anthony designed those two before I was on the project. Really kickass designs IMO. The Girl I did is Nepthys. I am not sure if she is a playable character or not.
Malekyth, Kendall, Lee Dot, and Rorsach did an amazing job on these characters. I almost wish this game had gone PC so you could truly see how nice the characters look. You kind of lose something with the Xbox.
great stuff. Since i not own the game or dont have the time for research. Can you hawkprey or somebody else post some of the models in compersion to the concepts. i would love to see some of the concepts relized ingame, how they look like, if they fit the style, etc etc.
Ruined another keybord because of drool... If I skip to page two I might be able to save this keyboard from the same fate. Damn fine stuff. As always your stuff makes me want to start modeling some of it.
Shimmer: Wait, you can't be bothered to buy the game because you can't afford the time, but you want me to take the time to render out shots of models and textures and display them for you? heh
I can't be bothered going through the red tape required to release shots, I didnt bother when Unreal2 or Fable shipped either for the same reason!
I'm sure you can find the shots on the many reviews that are on the web though, some of those have been hi res and well presented.

.....Just asking
The 5th one down (brock?) looks very Mortal Kombat-ish. (although I read or saw something about having MK characters in this game anyway right?)
What is the policy on showing things like thumbnails? Something less refined, and more in development?
I suppose I'm just interested in your process.
Lovely flowing lines... nice designs, although some of the concepts seem a little "stiff" as far as pose goes.
Good work, on the whole!
I feel all warm and fuzzy.

Lovin the Emperor, Sobek & Brock.
you just use a ruler to do the perspective on the weapons?
great stuff as usual.
Still the man!
