Which bit, man? There's so many tantrums and backstabbin' moments - what got you piqued? Throwing kit around? Stealin' folks from other companies? Daikatana?........
I get uncomfortable with an interviewee if he substitutes "crap" or "heck" or "dad burnit!" for perfectly good alternatives. On the other hand, someone who greets me for the first time with a "fuckmerunning, it warms my aching fucking heart to finally meet you, you beautiful cocksucker" is HIRED.
personally, i think nose takes this all too seriously. always trying to weasel out a hidden meaning, always trying to provoke a "discussion". the answer is we're all human beings, and no one knows the right answer. is there a right answer? i dunno, i suspect not. so we all go forward as we know how.
The book was set up to be a contrast between the characters and personalities of Carmack and Romero. The book shows "screenplay" type versions of both guys ... they are made more extreme than they are in real life.
I came away from the book with a greater appreciation for Tom Hall ... who was never portrayed particularly positively by some of my coworkers at id. I had the opportunity work with Tom a bit when we were helping set up Guildhall. Yes, although my name isn't mentioned in the body of the book ... thank god ... I worked there during the time period covered by it. By reading the book, I actually learned about things that went on while I was there that I was not aware of at the time of my employment.
