Now that I'm using this app as my primary mesh creation tool, I have a couple of questions.

1.) When I export to MD2 format, often the model becomes "scrambled". So I have been exporting to DXF. which means I cannot animate or unwrap since that info is lost(though I could export each individual frame, for animanting). I'd much prefer to use one app for everything. Any ideas why it may be doing this?

2.) The program gives me a message upon startup, "cannot find Python, happily continuing". I do have Python installed. Do I need to tell it where to find it or something?

Concerning the MD2 issue, I think it might be because the MD2 format is (like the MD3 format) in limited space - any verts over a certain X or Y location will get looped back round to the other side, which results in a big mess.

Try scaling your model down before exporting - make sure it's not bigger than 256 units in any direction. That's all I can think of, anyway...

I haven't used Python since version 2.1, but if you're running Windows, you need to set your path under environment variables. Also, you may want to download the Windows extensions for it, Pywin32. Blender should automatically detect it.

The DXF export in Blender is horrible, please favor Wavefront .obj, it's what I use to get the model into ms3d without a problem.

Also before exporting to md2, you have to convert all your quads into triangles first.

    It's not the size.

    Not quads vs tris.

Cheap, does the wavefront obj save skinmap info? If so, that's a solution to one of the problems.

I think MD2 only takes integer coordinates (or at least very low precision), make sure your model isn't too small, either (and remember, your object might have transformations applied to it, CTRL-A it before exporting).

Found a solution. I exported to DXF. Imported into Milkshape, and saved as an MD2. Reimported into Blender, and now it exports back to MD2 fine.

My thoughts on this: Blender's md2 importing/exporting is either broken, or there is some type of data that needs to be created(perhaps within blender) prior to exporting.

Clearly something is amiss or missing on exporting the original model to MD2.

    It's a hassel, but workable.
