since biting the bullet and investing in a new PC, i was expecting to be bowled over by the quality of current games. This is the case. I've been engrossed in some stunning stuff recently.
I have to extend this sentiment to shareware - i've been dicking about with some right ol' giggles recently, such as "N"
http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html and "Crimsonland"
http://crimsonland.reflexive.com/crimsonland/ , the latter of which i happily stumped up for (even though i wasn't impressed by the limited time-limit rather than limited-gameplay shareware limitation of this particular one).
Any other simple gems out there to recommend?

Add the mod TrueCombat:Elite to it and you got a real winner http://www.truecombat.com/intro.php
But I think that wasn't the point of this post
i've torn myself away now, time for bed. But i'm sure that if i get 10 minutes in the morning, i'll be back on it. Not bad for a game that cost a tenner. Heartily recommend it if you like a)bang and b)games that bring a mad smile to your face as you *somehow get out of a seemingly impossible situation (see also Bookworm, but without the bang obviously).
"operation: inner space", funnest game in the world man, dunno if any of you has played it before, the worse thing about the game is when the shareware period runs out...
